Finally, it took a brutal start to the year, but Howland mentioned the possibility of playing some zone defense. I know we are a man-to-man team, but when we cannot guard anybody, why not try the zone. I have been hoping for years we would introduce this wrinkle, even if only for a few minutes a game. Please, Howland, be flexible to get the most out of your personnel.

No UCLA team should be losing the way we have been this year. Even Lavin teams showed a little more hustle and heart. And these are all recruits hand-picked by Howland. Hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel on this season.

OMG wut wuss 4 a coach! Stop apologizing and start earning ur pay bro! Ucla pays u millions to win, NOT lose. I can NOT believe ur playing kats that do NOT play defense hence: Matt Roll, and Jerime Anderson. U have a ton of talent on the bench and refuse to utilize it. Abdul-Hamid, has the most experience at point guard, and Ben Howland refuses to play him!!! SAD! Drew Gordon, is the leading scorer & rebounder, but the coach could NOT overcome his ego, and sat him for 29 mins. WTF? James Keefe only played 12 mins. Ben Howland, wut r u dewin, bro? Is it time 4 u to step down? Have u lost the love 4 the game? I know most of those players are angry with u. This tournament showed exactly how u communicate with the team, and it spoke VOLUMES. I know u lost a couple of assistants over the years, but were they ones who held the team together? Right now is garbage, and ur the head of the snake.

What you always forget to count little trojan, is LIFE outside of football. I am willing to wager you are pulling a big 0'fer on that one! Have a nice day.

Well Howland has his work cut out for him. When I saw them briefly play on TV they looked like the JV teams of old. This will be a brutal season.

very poor recruiting
too many coaches that don't appear able to adjust to what is happening on the floor

You may be correct that this is the worst Bruin team we have seen in 38 years. On the other hand I have been watching UCLA for more than 50 years. Yes, back when we played basketball in the UCLA men's gym, the Pan Pacific auditorium, and Santa Monice CC. If all the experts posting on "Bruinville" had been around back then they would have been yelling for John Wooden's head, as we didn't have great teams back then. Of course Howland walked into a different situation as the head of a team with definite advantages in recruiting. Perhaps he is too old school for today's athletic players but it's a little early to judge from this one lousy season. And believe me, I don't see how it will be anything but that. How about a little optimism. Sure, I think I am already in "wait 'til next year" mode but I am still looking forward to better basketball days.
BTW, this isn't facebook for those of U who need to textspeak. U probably didn't go 2 UCLA or U'd have taken English.
Finally, for the Long Beach fans, it's fine to enjoy this victory after 11 consecutive losses to UCLA, or is it 12? But it's not smart to be cocky as you may get the opportunity to play them again in the future.

IMO, the reason we're struggling is because Howland did a horrible job in preparing some of this year's starting players last year. Jamison Morgan got but a few minutes last year, and he was supposedly the next "can't miss" big man at UCLA, what the hell happened to him? why is he not playing?
From what I've seen this team has no dicipline...you don't do behind the back passing when your behind in the game with only 1 minute left, or fail to get a long rebound that bounces 25 feet after a failed 3-point shot from the opposition.
There is no leadership whatsoever on the team, the seniors are playing like true freshmen, none of them have progressed - they all have regressed since they came to UCLA.
Can Howland get those H.S. recruits to play a year early?
I agree with you Rob, you have to get some playing time and experience when your not starting and prepare for the next year. I can"t believe how UCLA looks this year.
