Welcome to a day in the life of Tubby Smith. It goes something like this: Wake up, discover you are very close to taking the Auburn coaching job, lose to Xavier in the first round of the NCAA tournament, answer questions about the Auburn coaching job, fly back to Minnesota, wait for next rumor.

Tubby is a bust-he has a losing BT record and is 0-3 in post season and his players get no better-a total media creation

Tubby has certainly made progress with the Gophers. Some of the recruits who could've helped on the court were losers off the court. Smith can recruit pretty well though, so he will always keep the Gophers at a minimum mildly competitive, like this season.

Tubby is not a bust by any means. He has done a great job resurrecting a program that was decimated after the academic scandal.

The thing that worries me about the constant rumors of Tubby leaving is that it can negatively affect recruiting. Recruits can be pretty darn sure that Tom Izzo isn't going anywhere, same thing for Thad Matta, Bo Ryan, and a lot of other coaches at strong programs who you rarely if ever hear discussed for open coaching positions. On the other hand, if Tubby is constantly being talked about for other gigs, how much is a top recruit going to want to come here when he's not sure whether he'll be playing for Tubby or the next Dan Monson?

let'em all go, from maturi to tubby to brewster to
lucia. the state of gopher nation major sports is a
total joke. it starts with maturi who hired tubby, whose recruiting problems rest on him, to brewster who recruits thugs and them can't coach them to lucia
who the players don't want to play for once they get
there. bring in lou nanne as A.D for a couple of years to straighten out the mess that maturi has made!

Mildly competitive gets you fired at KY-but they build a monument to you at MN. Pathetic!

He resigned from Kentucky because he won a national title, was a three-time national coach of the year, three time SEC coach of the year, won five SEC regular season titles in 10 years, won five SEC tournament titles in 10 years, averaged 26.3 wins per season, won 75 percent of his SEC games and ranked third all time in wins at Kentucky.

And underachieved his last 4 years-you didn't answer the question because you can't-I was there -I know. How do you like a sub.500 BT record and 0-3 in the post season??. Get used to it. MN fans don;t care-Ky did and look where they are now. 10 loss Tubby is now 14 loss Tubby at MN and losers like you think it's great!! Pathetic

Seems strange he was fired. You forgot to look at his overall SEC record the last 4 years-about where he is at Minnesota-nobody was sad to see him go at Kentucky.

He was national coach of the year in 2005 during that four year span.

Why was he fired?? You don'twant to say it!!! The same reasons he has failed at MN! Dan Monson was in the NCAA in 2005 -so what??.Tubby was not 43-19 and his post season record what spotty alot. You have to win at KY-not at MN because there are always apologists around like you who are pathetic

Does the fact that the expectations are higher at Kentucky for basketball surprise you?? That's pretty common knowledge.

So we have three people all posting from Winter Garden Florida all posting under different names pretty much saying the same thing? Wow. It's a small world. Imagine that.

By the way, Tubby wasn't fired. He was not fired. He didn't get fired.

Yes, he was!!!He "resigned". I watched the whole thing-I have been watching hime10-12 games a year while he was in the SEC. As for what name you use on this board. Who cares? It's the internet pal, get a clue. Here's an idea -try watching the games -the Gopher half court offense is pathetic-just like at KY.
