UM is the one avoiding the UF.

In 1991, the SEC decided to expand to 12 teams and promptly invited UM and FSU to join in.

FSU refused, joining instead the All Cupcake Conference. Saint Bobby was honest enough to say that the SEC was a “tough” conference.

UM also declined, joining instead the Big Least Conference, which included at the time legendary college football powers like Rutgers and Temple.

Co-caines excuse was that they wanted to “upgrade” their basketball program, although during their tenure in the Big Least and subsequently in the ACC, they never reached the Sweet 16. The real reason was that they remembered numerous thrashings received from SEC schools, like in 1944 when Auburn rushed for 480 yards.

Later the Big Least started to become tougher, so the co-caines promptly fled to the All Cupcake Conference. However, UM football program’s collapse was such that they could not even handle their conference little sisters.

UM could have played UF every year but took the easy way out. Note that when UF dropped them, they did not line up another SEC school.

Please note that Jeremy writes for the Orlando Sentinel, not the Sun Sentinel. The Sun Sentinel not only passed on any lead story for this game, they didn't even cover the event. Haven't you noticed that the Sentinel coverage of the Hurricanes mirrors the attendance and support of most Cane "fans". Win, and you get support. Lose, and no one shows up.
Attendance at the UM senior day game -McClinton's last home game - was well under 3000 people. Pathetic when you think about it given the quality wins UM posted this year in the tough ACC.
Sometimes attendance at the U is so low that they introduce the players to the fans...in person.

Yep. In the NIT just like the rest of the also rans.

The fact is both teams underachived a LOT this year. And I said that in a thread before the game, so I am not just downplaying the Gators win. Good for the Gators to get in a few more days of practice--the only real benefit to the NIT.

The first line of this article summed it up the best:

"There's something about low-stakes basketball that brings the best out of Florida."

And for the record, there are rumors that Florida is trying ot get out of the 2013 football game in Miami and there is a confirmed story that Foley won't commit to playing the Canes after that game. My guess is he knows Miami will get better and FU will be on probation by then.

Anyway, on to the important sport. See you in Omaha, where the Gators have never won anything.
