Heather, I am a 1970 UMDCP grad. I live in NC and hear nothing about UMD but a lot about State, UNC, and Duke --where I did my MA and PhD. I really appreciate your articles on UMD sports. I find them critical but insightful. Keep up the good work.

I really like this year's team. They seem to have a personality similar to their coach's. It'll be a lot of fun watching them this year. I'm going to the game in Charlottesville this year. Please! Beat those snobby Wahoos!

This young man is courageous. You dont hear any whining or pre-madonna stuff here. He is a TEAMPLAYER, unlike some of the rabblerousers on this website. Where are the mods. Fredterp

It is easy to gauge our team after a few games. If can blow out the Nobodies, but them away and bury them early and often, we will have a great year. If we play to the level of the competition, like we some times do, and still win, we will be good, but not great. I feel like we lack the Killer intrinsics sometimes to just bury lesser teams.
Not losing Road Games to teams like Miami and (witch I will be attending most likely, YEA!) VA TECH, even thought they are becoming stronger.
It is not "showing up" which has happened to many times and in the players interviews, they admit it. "We just did not bring it......we got to put out the effort all game every game" Seems like the quote from every loss or bad performance or lucky close win.
It sound like this team may be over this hump, but time will tell. Hopefully I can just assume we will get 3 seed or lower come March. Waiting to see if we make it in, is not really any fun.

I think Landon has worked very hard this summer and is very dedicated to Maryland and Gary Williams. His off season work and experience gained will pay off for the team this season. A team player all the way, but make no mistake he wants to win. Ocean city and the entire Eastern Shore of Maryland will be pulling for Landon and the Terps. The positive attitude the team has off the court will pay off on the court. Take one game at a time! OCKidsfunpass.com

Milbourne stood out to me in last season's early games. His contributions didn't seem to grab Gary's attn but he looked extremely athletic with a body built to play the three. I was anticipating him playing valuable minutes last season but I guess Gary didn't have confidence in him.
With experience comes understanding and desire is the only missing piece (given talent) to becoming a good player. It appears that Milbourne has put in the work this summer and we can only hope that he has the head to play in big games. If he has a grasp of the offense and the willingness/intensity to play hard defense, he could be huge for this team.
I'm looking forward to seeing his development throughout the season. I don't think there's any question that he will need to contribute for us to contend with the big boys.

Landon Milbourne will make the difference this year. Maryland will be the surprise of the ACC in 2008-09.
