The NCAA tournament selection committee, like a prospective employer, is picky about the resumes of teams seeking inclusion in the field of 65.

This article is wack again, the Terps have been in consideration for some time now, it was the lost at UVA that took them out consideration. The Terps resume is not that bad with a great, yes great win over UNC in Chapel Hill all that is needed is 2 wins in the ACC tournament to make it to the dance. Lets focus on the positive here.

Time for Gary to go. With all the talent in the MD-DC-VA area, it is unacceptable to miss the tourney 3 of the last 4 years. I think the game has past him by.

Gary, get out of the bar and start coaching your players!

The game has indeed passed Gary by. Blue chip kids don't even consider Maryland. Too much yelling and screaming and substituting. Mike Jones couldn't start at Maryland? LOL. Yeah, with that lineup of potent scorers and blue chipper they had! My picks for transfers are Gregory, Dupree and Hayes. Hayes is a given. He's over his head in the ACC, can't match up at the 2 guard and isn't quick enough to play the point. Plus with Greives, Bowie, Mosley Maze and Tucker (what a 2-guard he could be), I can't see Hayes playing. He's got to know that. A year off and a mid-major school is his calling. If Gary doesn't get out and bring some major local talent to the school, he's done. RJ Bentleys and the Starboard will have to wait or he can spend more time there as a retiree. You think this year was bad? What till next year. Gilcrest can't play until January of next year. They got some guards and no big men. It could be ugly. As for the football team, Fridge won his first three years with mostly Vanderlinden's recruits. He hasn't done squat and made one of the worst play calls in Maryland history with the third down, goal line pass against Wake that was intercepted and run back for a TD. The Terrps were up 24-3 late in the 3rd. A field goal ends the game. And the Terps had two of the best backs in the ACC. I still can't believe that call. A high school coach would have run it up the middle and kicked the field goal. Game over.

I have to agree with Don that with the upset wins in the mid-majors (San Diego etc..) that the Terps need a run to the Final. Wins over Clemson and Duke should get us in with the bubble beings so soft. Granted we need teams like Syracuse, AZ State, Ohio State to lose early in their respective tournaments.

I will though agree with the other poster that you (Don) are very negative. Almost all of your articles are written from a negative viewpoint. Its all doom and gloom. Does anyone else miss Heather Dinich?

I think I replied to a similar comment by you in another forum, but you are foolish to think that 20 wins will be enough for this team to make the Dance.

With an RPI of 70, it will take nothing less than an ACC Tourney Title to sway the selection committee. It's hard to overlook 5 losses in the last seven games.

The 2005 and 2006 teams had many more quality wins and far fewer bad losses, yet they were denied a spot.

This team has the lowest RPI of any of the bubble teams and two more victories will not do the job.

Positive thinking is one thing, but let's be realistic.

If I were on the selection committee, this team's resume would end up in the shredder.

There are 24 potential bubble teams with higher RPI rankings than Maryland, according to si.com .

If you think this team is getting in without an ACC crown, you need to stay out of the sun.

I can't believe how far this team has fallen. I don't want them in the tourney this year. For what? To lose in the first round like 96 or 97...in 96 we got hammered by Santa Clara who had one great player, Steve Nash. Gary needs to play the freshmen guards, start Boom, Milbourne, Tucker, Bowie and the Turnover machine. Bring Gist off the bench until he gets his head out of his bbbbuuttt

The team has one quality win all season. You can't live off 1 win against the top 50. It is an embarrassment where this team has gone. It is basically no more than a NIT program.

Great article

gary needs to step up his
recruiting. seems like brenda
freese has a more solid program
in place with a steady nucleus of
players young and old blending well..

baltimore and dc is a hotbed for
basketball, gary should be able
to get better players in the area...

Gary has not had it together for a long while. We pick on the guards but it is really about the front court. Garrison, Caner-Medley, Gist, Ibekwe are the division II seniors that we have had lately.

The guards are playing harder and dumber because with these dudes they have to.

The issue is recruiting or coaching.

Let's be real about this.....it's over, the disappointment to VA was just the beginning of the March letdown. 1st round loss in ACC tourney is a lock, then a home loss to a small hungry mid major is next. I love Gary to death, but I agree that a change needs to be made, all of the talent that is lost from this area year in and year out is unacceptable.

I agree with all your all's comments. Gary has Jim Fassel Disease. Get out of the bars, act your age, be a coach and you'll win.

Williams' recruiting and coaching is a joke. Where did he get this Grevies guy from? He has to be the most undisciplined ballplayer ever (and that includes the old Gilcrist) No one player can lose a game on his own, but he comes close every game he plays. I've never seen as many bad plays out of one player before. Why is he constantly on the court?

Gary's recruiting days are over - expect average talent at best until he retires. This is probably as good as it gets with Gary until retirement and a new coaching regime.

Terpfan4life - Dont forget the debacle against UCLA in the NCAA's. We played the part of the Washington Generals to UCLAs Globetrotters.
Is there any truth to the rumor that the NIT is being renamed the Gary Williams Invitational?
