Jimmy Patsos the king

Gary Williams was a legend in his young days. Then came the bump at UMD and the emergence of Jimmy Patsos. Patsos developed and recruited the big men. Kept them aggressive and developed names like Smith, Booth, Baxter, Wilcox, etc.
Follow Loyola and it is a story of the old MD team. That is where the tough results are making him and the program something to watch.
MD big men have been an absolute joke since. Lazy---almost deformed play. Ibekwe should have been far down the bench. Travis Garrison and Gist total busts. The guards like Gilchrest and Vasquez try to become heros as these low post losers don't contribute.
Osby was "grabbing jerseys" pleading someone to play.
Right-not going to happen. Williams got a good run and the credit for Patsos' job. No good deed goes unpunished and now Loyola is where the king is and we are stuck with a tired has been who yells his misery.
The good news? well GW is 63 and his contract is up in a few years. Yes three more years of pain unless he is cut loose and Yow takes the hit.
Like Brian Billick, the assistants won the championship and now we are punished. Hopefully it wont last forever.

seriously. gary wins the national championship and cannot recruit any top talent. it's disturbing to say the least. the terps program should not be struggling to make the ncaa every year. they need to shake some things up and get gary out of there. his time has come and gone.

Forget about the talent, losses, NITs, etc. How about the fact that his teams don't box out any better from the 5th game to the last game. How about his teams lack of fundamentals? How about turnover after turnover of passing to someone without their hands up? How about the team not sprinting back on defense if their man isn't down there (it's us verses them, not you verses him)? You don't need Carolina players to do that. Look at Kentucky, Wisconsin, UCLA coaches. Yes there at big time now, but when they were starting off, they had Maryland talent.
He does get players 8/10 times to play hard, but hard without fundamentals at this level will lead to NIT.

What a joke James Gist was last night!

He whined all week about not knowing how he was gonna get motivated for the game. Good luck getting picked up by an NBA team James, when you can't even get excited about big college games on a regular basis. On second thought you might fit in with alot of the players who play half-a$$ for most of the regular season.

It's a down year, but calling to fire Gary and the fire gary williams websites are ridiculous. Look at the big picture

Gary has not transitioned well in an era where he shies away from 1-and-done talent.
After the championship, the Comcast Center was built to attract more talent. Ironic how that worked out?
Anyways - there have been misses in recruiting - where Ibekwe, Garrison, Jones, Gilchrist were all big-time recruits. Misses also include Gay, Dyson, and this year, Jennings - who spurned Gary for other programs.
All I have to say is that after the championship - what is the key problem? His assts are all gone - and we have as many NIT bids as we have arest warrants for the Terp kids this decade.
Is Gary simply living off his past? If he is, the future remains the same.
Rodney, Jennings didn't meet the academic standards of the U of Maryland. That's why he isn't coming to College Park.

Does anyone think that Gary's sideline demeanor scares away the top recruits? He still screams at his players on the sideline... he really hasn't calmed down in years. If you look at Duke's coach (can't spell his name), he seems to treat his players with much more dignity and respect. Just a thought.
Kevin,

He isn't "yelling" at his players. Most of the time, he is talking to the coaches. He is usually telling them about how they talked about a situation in practice. If you ask any player at Maryland, they will all talk about their fondness to Gary Williams.

Let's try to be serious. Loyola will never be able to complete above the low major level. They are having a good year in a VERY weak conference.
