Interesting that the columnist would call USC "blue collar" then describe them as innovative with a cutting-edge arena that offers an NBA-style experience complete with flashing lights and entertain-me passivity. UCLA may be located in one of the most high-priced locales in the nation, but the Bruins bring a hard hat and lunchpail to the gym every day. The rivalry appears more even this decade because USC was able to capitalize on Lavin's underachieving, ill-coached teams. Howland dropped his first two games with Lavin's players, but has won 5 of the past 6 meetings against the Trojans. Howland is bringing in the nation's #1 recruiting class next year with blue-chippers -- Jrue Holiday, Malcolm Lee, Jerime Anderson, Drew Gordon -- who fit in his tournament-proven system. With blue-chippers Reeves Nelson coming in two years and Kendall Williams in three, Ben Howland has the UCLA basketball machine clicking on all cylinders.
