Michael Arace commentary: Defeat is hard to bear, but hardly un...

There are nights when Value City Arena comes alive, when the regular fans rise to stand with the students, and their collective roar is akin to a fleet of Pratt & Whitney engines.

As a team, Purdue didn't not have a shooting exhibition, either. I would say the defenses kept the offenses in check.

Just know that in the NCAA; Evan won't be able to crash into the lane and get blocking calls 100% of the time. That charge into Johnson would've been called differently by Stevie Wonder or Ray Charles!

Purdue runs its record against top 10 teams to 4-0. What's Ohio State's record against top 10 teams this year?

Just asking.

Didn't get to see the game of course. But, did check out the box score. If I'm right.....

Purdue's Bench.....Got 47 minutes of playing time.
OSU's Bench......Got 9 minutes of playing time....

Therefore, It would appear that Purdue has a better bench than we do.

Never can tell about those on the bench and will never know until the season wears on. Now we really know about our bench. Won't try to second guess Matta. He knows his bench better than I do.

A last second shot for OT didn't drop.

As I didn't get to see the game and only know what I've read I would submit this. All that bouncing of the ball built up an over inflated pressure which means the ball was too bouncy and bounced off the rim. If it had been at an official pressure the ball would have gone in....

Ok idiot callers.. Bet my explanation is as good as yours..... And I still say...Go Bucks

That was a bad call, but how about the 3 dozen no calls against anyone guarding Turner?

If you'd told me going into the season that Ohio State would split with Purdue, I'd have taken it.

Going into the season, I would've told you that Purdue is the team to beat in this league. And that Ohio State would be good enough to battle for 3rd place (behind Purdue and MSU). 14 games into the Big Ten season, that is right where things stand. Having said that, however, a win in East Lansing isn't out of the question, which would improve the outlook quite a bit.

The first half was painful to watch. Turner dribbling at the top of the key and 4 guys standing around. No ball movement, no motion, nothing. I've never seen an offense that lethargic, at least out of a supposed top 10 team. I'll say it again (as I've said all season) as long as there is only one guard touching the ball and doing all of the scoring, the bucks will never beat a top tier team. We were fortunate to lose by 3!

I'm so sick of watching Evan Turner do everything for Ohio State. It would be nice if he had ANY help whatsoever. Lauderdale, Lighty & Buford Sucked last night. I expect it out of Lauderdale, but Lighty's suppose to be a veteran on this team. How many turnovers is this kid gonna have. He can't go through 1 game without a traveling call. When Lauderdale blocked that ball & Lighty picked it up & somehow lost the ball, which went out of bounds, that was a BIG moment that Lighty blew !! In big games, Lighty gets all worked up & he does nothing but hurt the team. How can you go through the whole game with 4 pts & 3 turnovers ?? Thats horrible.

I told everyone OSU was going to be in trouble when they played a team that had a good center/inside game. JaJuan had his way with Lauderdale. Lauderdale looked good against Indiana, but guess what, OSU isn't going to see teams as bad as Indiana come March. Lauderdale had 3 pts, 3 rebounds & 2 turnovers !! Thats just down right bad !! Oh, for all you people who call him a "role player", whats his role ?? he played 31 minutes & those are his stats.

As for Diebler, you have to make that shot. He couldn't have been anymore wide open than he was. With that being said, Diebler looks like he's improving. I like the fact that he's looking at driving the ball to the rim instead of settling for the 3's all the time. I will complain that he's 6'6 & he grabbed 3 rebounds. Come on Jon, Man Up !!

Thank God we have Evan Turner. We would have lost by 20 last night if he didn't play. These other guy's better start looking at themselves in the mirror & figure a way to start helping him out. He actually looked tired & beat up last night. I can't blame him, he's playing every minute of every game. Except when he's in foul trouble.

Hopefully the guys can have a good couple practices & come out against Michigan State with a different attitude / game !!!

Purdue is a team that didn't lose lose any players to the NBA in the last few years. Ohio State has lost 5 who would have been playing this year. Yet OSU manages to split the series and remain nationally ranked. What was that you were asking, again?

(p.s. the answer to that question might be even more interesting next year)

True, but also acknowledge that in the NCAA tournament the constant hand checking and reachins with contact Turner was subjected to as he brought the ball up the court won't be ignored.

Michael, according to Pat Forde, ESPN, the Boilermaker home, Mackey Arena, is 400 times louder than Value City. Why can't Buckeye fans show up, and cheer, for basketball like they do for football? Especially for a very talented Top 10 team?

Simmons and Hill could have given us a couple minutes. Our guys had no legs in their outside jumpers the final 4 minutes. Might have made the difference.

Gotta have some bench time in the Big Ten tourney or we will be spent come NCAAs.

Thad said OSU had "enough time for two?" What game was he watching? They should have called a TO and set up a play.

Big Ten school, division 1 right??? and we have 6 players that can play a game? SAD !!!! Lighty and Buford should have sat for a while and give Hill and Simmons a few minutes, just to see if either one of them could get hot...also, why can't we get an offensive board???

first off, stop whinning about no-calls on Turner..He gets tons of the questionable calls in games and gets away with some on the defensive end as well..

bsharp - whats it matter who lost what to the NBA? That is Mattas recruiting and his fault for not having depth. That is the risk/reward for going after those types of players. That is why OSU has not been a consitant basketball program over the years. If anything with so much talent they should have been much better under Matta. To only have ONE Sweet 16 with so much talent makes you question his coaching ability.

OSU better figure out how to stop the ball screen before Sunday or Lucas and MSU will have a field day cause thats all they seem to do is set a high screen and let Lucas create..Need to sharpen up on rebounding as well for that game..Win in East Lansing and who knows, maybe Purdue will slip either against Illinois or at Minny
