This definition from The Hindu:

What is the meaning and origin of ‘chink in the armour’?

This is an expression that has been part of the English language for over 600 years. When you say that someone has a chink in his armour, what you mean is that the person has a minor fault which is likely to cause him problems. In other words, the person has a flaw which can be taken advantage of by other people.

Stupid PC BS has people set to take offense at the drop of any word.

not up for debate: "chink in the armor" is a legitimate phrase.

not up for debate: "chink" is racist term.

thus, when you use the phrase "chink in the armor" and the "chink" actually refers to a Chinese person - there is a problem.

The length of time a phrase has been in the English language is irrelevant. I can think of plenty of racist and not acceptable words that have been a part of the English language for hundreds of years.
