Stull has done a good job of picking Head Coaches, I think he'll do it again. It's hard to be a successful athletic director for UTEP, I think he's done a fabulous job. For some reason everyone always complains about how both sports programs because of him. Well actually thanks to him, we got Mike Price, HE IS A GOOD COACH. Its just hard to recruit players to El Paso. The football program hasn't had a winning season in four years, but they've been competetive. Its just lacking that extra "mmph". I know if Bob Stull can atleast ignite the football program, he can do it for basketball, which he has proven with the past 3 coaches.

Billy probably wanted to come back without a contract again and of course that put Stull in a bad light before. Why the no-name on the other interviewee and why are there different stories on Derrick, I hope he's at least attending class so if he backs out of the draft we won't have to wait on him to get academically eligible.

Gillispie would be the worst choice for UTEp for 1 reason. Once he has a good season or two, he will jump ship just like last time and UTEP will be humiliated not once, but TWICE by the same person.

Fool me once...shame on you; fool me twice...shame on me.

Strategically, Gillispie future actions could really hurt UTEP. We deserve better.

Let's get this straight....UTEP sports (post don haskins) has always been a farm school for the SEC, Big East, Big 12 schools...we lost Billy Gillespie and now Tony Barbee after bringing the winning traditions that UTEP basketball is all about. But if you dont have a coach who is passionate for the city and the community...why try to replicate failure and bring in a coach like Floyd and Gillespie who are jsut using this to get their resume back in gear to move on to bigger and better things outside of El Paso.
I think Coach Dickey is the perfect fit for this program. One thing us El Pasoans overlook so much is that coaching is not about one man. It takes that entire staff to contribue and build a program. They have just as much equal responsibility to coach, develop, and recruit. So it's only evident that El Paso needs someone like coach Dickey - someone who we know loves El Paso and this program, and is in it for the long run.

Can you hear me now Bob Stull?

If Dickey doesn't get the UTEP head coaching job, I sure would expect him to have gotten the hint that he never will. Expect him to be finding another place to coach, whether it be a head coaching job at a small school or as an assistant coach at a big school like Auburn.

Just a thought.

What we all think really doesn't matter much. Stull does the picking and he has done a good job lately. The coaching fraternity is pretty closed door and we aren't privy to all the facts. I vote to let Stull do his job and hope for the best.

The bottom line is that UTEP can't afford to bring in a "big name" coach. If loyalty and committment is important to Stull, he needs to look no further and give Dickey an opportunity. Rarely do you see an assistant coach promoted to head coach at the same campus, such as the case at UTEP right now. I completely agree that it takes a whole staff to build the program and Dickey has been here at UTEP for 6 years now...he just might be the guy to stick around for a long time if given the opportunity. Every assistant coach that becomes a head coach understands that he/she will only get better as the years go by. I know Floyd is the sentimental choice, but he has bounced around too much..no consistency, and as for Gillispie....well let's say Barbee does not do well at Auburn and is let go in 3 years, Would El Paso really want him back? Gillispie had his opportunity at UTEP. Coach Dickey can keep the core group of guys intact and pick up where UTEP left off this year for next year. Sometimes it's not about the "big name" coach, it's about the "right fit". Good luck Bob Stull, we're sure you'll take every thing into consideration in making a good hire and that this person will be the "right fit" for UTEP and El Paso. Go Miners!

I say let's hire coach Dickey there is something in him that say's he is going to be a good coach. He might even bring his brother James along which was a good coach at Texas Tech. My vote is for Coach Dickey!!!!!!
