no trade - ferry's doing nothing
trade - ferry's not doing enough
ferry got a productive player giving up very little in return. smith's a productive player, but he's in his mid 30's and damon jones wasn't going to play. we've still got $20 mil in expiring contracts in wally & eric snow.
williams might be overpaid, but not overly so; his PPG & APG are comparable to players such as billups or andre miller who would (deservedly) command more on the open market, but his contract makes him reasonably tradeable should it come to that.
finally, it lets delonte west get a realistic sense of his value to the cavs, and to the NBA as well - he can re-sign or risk going somewhere else and ending up on the bench.
