I watched an interview not that long ago where they were speaking with Rose's brother. Rose doesn't even control his own money, his brother does.

Just curious what Morrisey said about mike phelps who is white. Did he have an opinion on him during his photogate? Rose did something dumb. So did morrisey, by writing this commentary. We can't stop and think that everything we do will one day haunt us. That is just not being human, it is being a robot. Everyone makes mistakes. Leave the kid alone.

This article is kind of insulting and as usual from Rick Morrisey boring and dumb. Stop substituting the word shy for dumb when that is clearly what you are trying to say. Maybe that statement wasn't him maybe it was, I doubt you have any clue either way. Secondly Rose has never come off as anything other than polite and respectful. Stop trying to cause a fuss over a mistake in a 20 year olds life. The whole story should have always been a non story.

Rose is an idiot and is making Chicago look terrible. He is such a liar that he lets some other guy take his SAT, then does stuff like this. He certainly isn't smart, he's dumber than a box of hair.

This is the stupidest controversy ever. Every kid on Facebook has a picture of themselves throwing up a gang sign. It's meaningless.

if there's one thing you can count on from morrissey, it's cliche and patronizing sportswriting.

let's all get out our high horses and lecture a 20 year old kid from englewood whose extraordinary basketball talents are the reason he's not really in a gang. let's talk about how "dumb" it was of him to joke around in a photo, or how he could have let himself be exploited by memphis and the nba like he did.

for all the potential bad choices derrick rose has faced throughout his life, if these are two of his worst, i think he's doing an incredible job.

morrissey, you're such a predictable hack.

Or, more likely, he is a Gangster Disciple and was representing to his fellow members. From a neighborhood and city where flashing gang signs is a matter of life and death it strains credulity to accept Rick Morrisey's sports writer's natural brown nosing. Whether this makes Rose more or less popular is not as important as the effect this picture has had on young boys from his 'hood.

You're joking, right? It is NOT funny to "pretend" you are part of the Gangster Disciples Gang. As a CPS teacher, I have seen SEVEN of my students die from the guns of this gang and others...if you seriously think this is a joke, I honestly have NO PROBLEM stating I hope you meet someone who understands throwing gang signs isn't a joke, and teaches you that lesson.

Look, I went to a school with GD Folk and every kid knew how to throw pitchforks, and you do it as a joke because its so taboo. I've thrown the sign amongst friends a million times as a joke, and thats all it is, a joke. The sign only has power if you're amongst gangsters, but if you're hanging with your friends its just a joke. Sheesh guys. The pitchforks exist, representing them in a non-gangster context is just a representation of the fact that gangsterism exists. It does not endorse the gangster lifestyle in any way. It is no different than writing an article about throwing pitchforks, it is representation in the abstract sense. If Kirk Hinrich threw them in a picture would anyone care? No. So don't care because a black kid threw them, its just racist garbage.

Sad, but true. And it's unfortunate how gang culture has become synonymous with pop culture. I'm not sure if Rose was just another poser, or a real gang banger, but it's a shame regardless. I for one have lost a good deal of respect for Derrick Rose.

Why are all these people commenting on the signs Derrick Rose exhibited when he took a picture at a party? How many people go to jail with a White Sox cap on? Or a Bulls jersey? Does that mean they played for the White Sox or the Bulls. At every college, I see young people displaying their connections to street organizations. Yet, they are at college and they are not getting in trouble. Keep flying those forks Derrick and keeps staying positive.

No, but usually it means they're a supporter. So does that mean D. Rose supports a gang? If so, he's done in my book. I'm sick of that garbage. If someone was walking around with a swastika, they'd be persecuted for it. Same should be the case for all this gangster garbage.

Hey Rick, find something better to write about. He's an immature kid who is just now understanding what it means to be in the spotlight. You can't expect him to understand those things coming out of high school. The tribune shouldn't pay you to write this kind of junk.

And Michael Phelps is another privileged, white, rich kid that everyone will make lame excuses for. What's your point? People do stupid things regardless where they grew up.

Then every kid on Facebook should be shot.

The rumour mill is especially active, and interesting tales are coming at you from all sides. Don't believe everything you hear: there are people who will start gossip to further their own aims and you don't want to help them unwittingly. Similarly, don't reveal too much of yourself to those who you don't know intimately - keep your own counsel.
