may as well trade him now while you can still get something for him becuz, based on Pohlad's quote here you can already tell he is back peddling. He is going to be cheap and try and make it appear as if Mauer is blowing the Twins off, when in fact ,we ALL know that the Twins will low ball him big time and anger him to the point tha the is saying addios!!!!! In reality Mauer has already made up his mind and will not be back. He wants to win a World Series and well, he is smart enuf to know the Twins will never cough any moolah to sign anyone who can help the Twins get there...Mauer is as good as gone, may as well trade him and get something for him now instead of letting him walk like we did with Torii .....I know the Mets are interested....how about Mauer for Santana and Luis Castillo?...this Twins front office is so laughable and cheap ...and it will NEVER change. They got their new stadium so they are happy as can be....and one last thing to remember sports fans.....and this is TRUTH...the Pohlads ARE the richest owners in ALL of pro sports...

If he truly wants to be remembered as a legend then he should go to NY. A big fish in a little pond could become an even bigger fish in the biggest pond. All the MN fans should be glad they had the chance to watch him but be cheering for whats best for him, not the cheap Pohlads or the Frogtowners who can't get over he may want to leave the nest.

The Twins can't pay him what the overpriced market will so you have to trade now and get the most back you can. You can't win with 1 player so get 3 good in return. If the baseball part of the business can't support his signing they shouldn't spend a penny of their own money!

Joe will look good behind the plate as a Yankee!! When will Twins management learn...you gotta spend the money to keep the good ones here.

Joe will look good as a Yankee. When will Twins management realize they need to pay the good players to stay here if they want to compete

Translation: We are going to wait on this until the very end and see how many second tier prospects we can steal from the Yankees, Redsox, Angels, or Mets for Joe.

I love my Twins, but they've got to do whatever it takes to keep Mauer. If they don't resign him, I think I'm moving on to cheer for a different team. How 'bout them Rockies/Brewers/Cubs?

The Twin's excuse train has already started. Hey Pohlad, it is called money you are going to have to spend a lot of it. You are cheaper than you old man.

A little advice to Jim Pohlad: Jim this is a pivotal moment in the franchise with the new taxpayer funded stadium set to open next year. These are moments in time you never get back.... I would STRONGLY advise you to refrain from the public comments like "it takes two sides...etc" because the implication of that comment is that only you are making an effort. Whether that's true or not is irrelevant. Do what you need to do, and we are all hopeful that you are astute enough to understand what excatly that is, and keep your mouth shut...completely, until there is something substantive to report. Don't go for the easy media, court of public appeal BS. Just do your job, and do it behind closed doors where it belongs...... Shooter has enough stupid inane things to write about. He doesn't need your help.

I think that Mauer is doing the best thing for himself, and hopefully the Twins fans by waiting. IMO he is going to make this team prove to him that they are serious about contending, and wait for these guys to make some bold moves this offseason to prove it before resigning. I'm on Mauer's side no matter how this plays out, because IMO the only reason that he would not resign here is if he felt that the team will never be willing to take the next step. Unless of course he signs with the Yankees, at which point I would only root for him to take several 58ft curveballs to the cup.

The inability of the Twins not signing JM will be the end of pro-baseball in MN - mark my words. Having said that, JM will re-sign with the Twins. Bankees will actually have to utilize their own farm team and come up with a catcher. Unless they sold that too. Do they even have a minor league system??? Pharmacies dont count. Otherwise, find another teams hand-me-downs.

Jim, You are the fortunate heir to you father's billions. You inherited a team that just soaked up hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to build a brand new stadium. Joe Mauer is by all accounts a polite, soft-spoken, endearing kid who grew up as a school boy legend from a far-reaching and respected family in St Paul. No matter how you spin it you WILL lose in the court of public opinion, so it's probably in your best interest to NOT GO THERE. I would suggest a different approach.

Only problem is the market suggested they deserved more money. In typical Twins fashion they refused to pay market value. Then complained they are a small market team.

we should give the Pohlad family more money? Perhaps an indoor and outdoor stadium? All the parking and sales revenue? They are obviously hurting for money, so lets throw more at them. when the Vikings leave we can give them even more. Hopefully the taxpayers of MN can make Jim Pohlad the states first trillionaire.

So your under the illusion that one has to be a New Dork Bankee to be considered a "legend???" NY thought great enough of the nostalgia of the original Yankee Stadium or "The House that Ruth Built" to tear it completely down and make a parking lot out of it. Tearing down the history of it in the process. Perty sure Cooperstown inducts HOF's, which are considered legends, are from every team in the league. Not just from the Bankees. That legend crap may have worked 20-30-40-50+ yrs ago but it seems to me these days that players go to the Bankees who want to be remembered, inadvertently or not, as greedy, egotistical and overstuffed with steroids - but won a World Series. That aint Joe Mauer and he will grow as a legend throughout MLB as a Twin just fine and eventually find himself in Cooperstown - as a Twin. Is it possible one dysfunctional state that is NY can be so full of itself??? Apparently.
