NASCAR For Northerners

Nov 4, 2008 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Bleacher Report

NASCAR isn't just for people where "y'all" is actually a word. Believe it or not, NASCAR is a sport and other people outside the South do like NASCAR.

I'm also from Canada and I agre with you CNG-14, there are a lot of us here. I see a ton of cars with 24 license plate holders, or Earhardt decals on their vehicles, people wearing Junior hats and Tony t-shirts around town and no one can dispute the number of Canadian Flags you see at EVERY track on the circuit. Watch RaceDay or Trackside this weekend, I bet you see at least one!

Nascar isn't just a Southern Sport anymore.

We'll just have to have every other song a non-country song. How about some Dave Matthews!

Awesome! They are cool and at least sound good live. Yep, been there too. I live about an hour and 45 minutes from the Gorge. I was supposed to go to Tom Petty this year and had to work instead. Had to sell my tix for next to nothing. Ugh!!
While I love country music, I have to admit I like almost all genres with the exception of opera. Just cant do it.
Here's another one for ya.

This is one of my fav's!

See ya round NASCAR hater. Have you even ever been to a race?

Ha ha, nice.
Dave is awesome live. Nothing better.
Tom Petty would be cool. I have heard nothing but good things about his live shows. Sucks you had to work.
NASCAR hater! Well I can explain.
I grew up watching open wheel, stock cars, and the local dirt track.
Open wheel grabbed my attention when my Dad took me to my first race when I was 6 or 7 years old. During that same period we also attended USAC stock car races as well as ASA races. But the open wheel cars made an impression on me like no other form of racing. I was a huge CART fan and traveled to about 4 or 5 races a year when it was at its peak in the mid to late 90ís. During this same time period I started getting interested in sports cars. 24 hours of Daytona, 12 hours of Sebring, and LeMans. I thought endurance racing was awesome. So many different cars, exotic and fast as hell.
I also attended three NASCAR races during this time.(I also attended some truck and Busch races) I always kept an eye on what was going on in the series because it was racing. I would watch the occasional race as well. Always Daytona and Bristol for a while. It got to the point that I was getting really bored with ovals, the duration of the races and the lack of anything happening in the races until the end. On the other hand, open wheel was balls out for two hours except for the 500 milers. The road racing was exceptional. We always walk from turn to turn to turn just to get the feeling of the race and the track from many different perspectives. I canít imagine sitting in bleachers for 5 hours watching an oval race again. The fan friendliness of the now defunct Champ Car series and ALMS can not be rivaled. I love road racing, I have a passion for it. I hate what Grand Am has done to sports car racing, but the ALMS is truly a first class racing experience. In the end, NASCAR just became a real chore to watch, I got bored, I actually donít hate it, I just think they have a great marketing machine behind them and that is why the popularity is where itís at. If NASCAR had been run by Tony George he would have ruined that too.
So that is my long winded history.
