Just heard on CNBC that Home Depot's financial troubles are growing. They have stopped a special project that they've run for years, where they supported the members of the US Olympic teams. They gave them part time jobs but at full pay, and paid their health insurance. This program is now totally stopped. They said there's some concern about HD's support of other outside promotions, including their sponsorship of Nascar. Looks like Tony got out in time.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if rumors of HD troubles were swirling around back when Tony made his decision to leave. It could have even played a part in his contract negotiations.

HD's problems started back when Bob Nardelli was still CEO. While he was CEO HD was opening up stores left and right. They over grew themselves.

The housing market was hot and they just kept opening up stores. So when they got rid of Nardelli and this new CEO took over, he started downsizing immediately.

Amen, Dreaming! Nardelli added to HD's problems, just like he did at Chrysler! That man is a real menace to big business. It's too bad that those companies are having to pay for his ignorance and disregard for sound business practices.

Wow! Things aren't as bad as you make it sound. I hear they are still opening stores at a slower pace, stock was up to 25 yesterday and are still paying out dividends on their stock through 09

It always amazes me how these CEO's run a company into the ground, get fired and turn around and immediately get hired by another company - WHY do they not realize the same thing will happen again - same person, same MO.

Delusional much? Home Depot needs to fix it because hundreds of thousands of families will face unemployment and home foreclosures. Life will go on without Joey Logano in the 20.

Oh, I agree w/ you 100%, Darcie. Tony is a very astute business man, and if he even had an inkling that HD might be in trouble, he knew he had to move on.

It happens all the time. The company that I used to work for got new management w/checkered past and now the company isn't even a shell of it's former self. It really sad because it was a wonderful place to work and the clients were appreciated. The clients gave the place a name then their needs became TOO EXPENSIVE. I get a sick stomach every time I think about it. Money talks - the h#77 with doing what is right.

Geez......I better go back to my corner and eat another bag of marshmallows.

And isn't it interesting that HD dumps Nardelli and then he becomes CEO of GM? And now look where GM is---begging for money from you and me. Don't these guys learn you can't take a guy who screwed one company and think he's going to save yours? It would be like Hendrick hiring some guy who's never won a race and think he's going to win the Cup Championship during his first year. These supposed educated CEO's must have the collective IQ of a gnat.

And if I recall correctly, Nardelli walked away from HD with a $200 million severance package.

they will downsize and quit giving jobs to olympic athletes at full pay for part time work.. while that is a nice idea,,it is an entitlement program which are going to have to be cut across the board across the nation... I wonder how much icing is going to be taken off the cake.. we have all gotten so spoiled it isn't even funny... but the money was not ever there to pay for so many things..not ever..so hopefully those programs will be stoppped... like my neighbor lady getting a bus to pick her up to take her to the rec center a couple blocks away when there are like 6 cars in their driveway and 6 drivers....waste...many things that were done in good times will now be stopped.. but news to the world,, the supreme leader is lying when he says this economy is the worst... Jimmy Carters was the WORST...God HELP AMERICA to survive the "presidency" of the inexperienced, unqualified Marxist Socialist

Andy, your new president is going to destroy the America that you have grown accustomed to living in... you had best prepare yourself...we are going to have war on our own soil now because we do not have a strong president..I have been entirely correct so far in my opinion of him... you all might as well listen and prepare because the people who voted for Obama, voted for a man whose entire plan was to bring America down a few notches...
