Good explanation - but you've got to admit they're timing looks suspicious.

I can't help but wonder how long Office Depot has been considering this, and their timing, of this decision?
Tony has taken OD to the Chase every year they have sponsored him, and to the Championship last year.
It seems like an extreme decision coming a week after the helmet throwing incident, but that can't help but cross my mind.
Before sponsoring the #14, OD sponsored the #99 for a number of years, so they've been a strong Nascar sponsor for some time. Has anyone heard if they are pulling out completely, or going to another car like Burger King did?
OD contract ran out I believe Aug 30th 2012.They might sponsor Smoke for a handful of races & I stress on the word might. As far as OD goes ...I live in Up State NY the nearest OD is in MASS. Plus with the web you can go on line to search for the best deals for Office Supply's.And most of the best deals R Amazon & Ebay . J/S

It's official and all over Nascar.com Next year we'll see Matt in the 20 car and Joey driving the 22

Hope this turns out to be a good career move for both!

Matt sounded very happy & positive about the move. I was never aware until it was explained on S XM . But Matt is suppose to be a great chassis man . If this is true all 3 teams will benefit with Matt joining Gibbs.

I'm pleasantly surprised with JGR - they usually sign the young guys they see with potential, so to sign a veteran like Matt is out of the ordinary for them. But, I think it's a great decision and JGR now has 3 top, competitive drivers. I've always respected Coach and I wish the entire organization great success.

On the other hand, I'm not sure why Penske thinks Joey is a better bet than Sam. It's like they rolled the dice on that decision.

I have an investor that watches the stock market for me, but I agree - this description from wikipedia doesn't sound a struggling company to me. "An S&P 500 company, Office Depot generates revenues of over US $14 billion annually and has 42,000 employees worldwide. It is headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida."

to GET Matt, JGR had to promise him that his son Ross would be in their program, so again they are going after the next generation driver..
as for Joey,,, I hope he likes being teamates with Brad... I think they will be good together and I think Penske is going to be a GREAT boss for him,, Joey was a 3rd wheel going into JGR with Denny and Kyle already believing they were the greatest drivers out there.. how many races did he end up getting WRECKED by his own teamates???.. hopefully Brad will be an amazing teamate for Joey and he will BLOOM there

I wasn't aware Matt's move was opening the door for Ross, but that makes it an even sweeter deal for all. Ross is enjoying a lot of success climbing up the racing ladder so this is actually another smart 'looking into the future' move for JGR.

JGR has given the same opportunity to Joey, that they gave to KB, DH and even TS. KB was the 3rd wheel and HMS behind the 24 & 48 and his career has really grown at JGR. DH is still proving they made the right decision to sign him.

I think being signed to replace TS in the 20 car was a great opportunity for Joey, but the media and fans expected far too much way too soon. I do not blame KB or DH for his mediocre performance. I think it was Zippy who never gave him a fair shot. He started pouting as soon as TS left JGR and I don't think he tried to build the same successful big brother/mentor/crew chief relationship with Joey.

Joey and Brad have the same "move or I'll take you out" racing attitude. IMO the best way the other teams can help them mature is to race them the same way.

you honestly see a boy barely old enough to be allowed in the series as having the same opportunity as Tony, who refused to move up UNTIL he knew he could be successful???? what JGR did to Joey is almost child abuse... THEY had Joey on their radar, in their "program" most of his career.. they threw him in the fire.. they are no different from the baseball team that has the hot young pitcher that they use until their destroy his arm, but opposite....
and since you were unaware of the reason for Matt leaving Rousch, where he has had one of the BEST rides there is,,, I seriously think you need to quit throwing me under the bus for KNOWING information about most subjects prior to you eventually learning them...
LISTEN to me so you can be AWARE before it is OBVIOUS

Contrary to what you might believe, the other posters here are entitled to have, and perfectly capable of forming, their own opinions without your input. Although most of the rest of us have fulltime jobs outside the home and fulltime lives outside of Nascar, FYI, "listening to you" is always taken with a grain of salt.

JGR had more faith in TS than I would have had in a driver in his late 20's who had gone 3 yrs in Nationwide (Busch) w/o a win. Drivers today are "ready" for Sprint Cup much younger, with successful careers.

Joey has the distinction of being the youngest driver ever to win a Sprint Cup race - and I'm sure he is grateful to JGR for that, even if the race was called account of rain.

And as closely as Joey's parents monitor his career, I'm sure his father would not allow having his subject to child abuse.

By the time KB was 22 (Joey's current age) he had 4 Sprint Cup wins. Then, in of course in his first year with JGR in 2008, he had a phenomenal 8 wins.

I personally don't care about your inside Nascar information, and I will not be the target of one your rampages.

Kyle B. mentioned during a interview . He was trying to get Matt to let Ross behind the wheel of one of his cars. But I have heard nothing about Gibbs.

UUUMMMMMMMMM DEBI R you aware Joey was 18 when he was offered the ride in the 20 car ??? R U also aware at 18 a man or women can join the military in this country?????? If Joey at 18 is old enough to fight & die for his country. He is old enough to make the division to drive a cup car. More importantly LADY U do not know what real child abuse is!!! I do not think you could handle reading about REAL child abuse .
