"Regardless on how the championship goes down between Johnson and Gordon, it will certainly be an emotional weekend for Earnhardt. He'll make his 291st and final start with Dale Earnhardt Inc., the team he began his Nextel Cup career with in 1999, earning 17 wins along the way."

I'm going to have mixed emotions come Sunday. Even though I am so excited about Jr going to HMS where he will have the equipment he needs I am still going to be very sad about him leaving DEI and that #8 team. I would love to see him go out with this last win.

I'm sure it is going to be very emotional for Jr!!

Whatever dude. Imagine growing up in and working for a family business and having to leave it way before you are ready.

He shouldn't have had to leave it. He and his sister and brother should be in management roles and eventually be the owners. This should not have ever happened. It really will be a sad day. He will be fine but it has to hurt leaving something that his Dad built. I hope Teresa falls on her ass and somehow Junior and kerry and Kelly can get it back someday!

Maybe it doesn't mean the same without his father there. Its just a company now.

It's really the end of an era and I for one will be a little sad on Sunday watching him race. It has to be the strangest feeling for him, leaving his father's company. But, in reality, it's business and that's how it goes sometimes. No use pondering certain things that are never going to change.
That said, change is good, and this season was just too long to watch , with all the dnf's. I hope he will be happy next year. JMO

Whether Jr. wanted it or not the last 7 years have been spent in his late fathers shadow with most everyone expecting him to be and exactly like Sr. In 2008 he will finally be on his own, just Dale Earnhardt Jr., new driver for Hendrick Motorsports. I can say with confidence he won't have 7 DNF's from blown engines in 2008 for HMS. No more of the BS from the strained relations at DEI, just climb in the best equipment in NASCAR and drive like the heck out it. Here's to you Jr. I hope you have the best year in 2008 any driver ever had, you deserve it.

I agree with you. If all parties were willing to work together there should have some way to work it out to keep the WHOLE family in the family business.

True enough. SR. never drove for DEI anyway did he. He was driving for Childress in his final race. I watched Nascar Now last night and learned that SR. was the driver for Hendrick's first win and now JR. is driving for Hendrick's. I wonder if that had anything to do with his decision to go with Hendrick's.

Whats your take on this years championship? One of my friends, a Gordon fan is pissed because of how the chase took away his 5th title and he wants the chase gone altoghther.

I think his decision to go to HMS is plan and simple. They have the best equipment around and they are Chevys.

Yes the # 8 that he so dearly held to his heart. And the history of the EARNHARDT family tradition of racing and a # he made famous. But no.. Cold hearted Teresa, couldn't ..or wouldn't work it out. So with that.. more power to HMS, JR!! Look out 08 here comes "Dale Jr." in the #88!
