I agree. The design of the fence has to allow for some give when something as weighty as a car hits it. Find a picture of the fence after Sunday's race and after the race in 1987 when Bobby Allison took down a section of fence. Dramatic improvements have been made in the last 20 years. But short of someone inventing some indestructible material that will absorb impact without shattering the car, injuring/killing the driver, keep all debris from entering the stands, AND be clear so as not to disrupt sight lines, this type of fencing will continue to be used.
The tracks we frequent would love to have fencing as strong as what the Cup tracks have, but then again, our stands are usually much further from the track and, in some cases, are elevated from track level. Yes, accidents do happen and cars and debris do occasionally find their way into the stands, but we go to these races knowing there's a potential for injury. As fans we know that we bear responsibility for our own safety.
Our local track does have the same fencing. We sure don't go that fast but it's nice to know what kind of force it will take:)

I agree scarroll! This is one incident. Not sure why Topix is showing me from CA but I am from Houston, Texas. I go see all the sports events here and have seen my share of incidents during games but I still go! I have never bought general admission tickets to a Nationwide or Spring Cup race at any track I have been to. You can pick what section you want to sit in. If you don't want to take a chance on flying debris, then sit up top.

You'd be the expert on 'making a fool' out of themselves wouldn't ya? What is this like day 40,097 without companionship for you? Talk about a "dry" spell! Literally! LMFAO
Foolish, foolish spoiled little brat! Do you have photographic evidence to support your ridiculous claim? Or is it, as I suspect, a last ditch effort to detract attention away from your foundation-less blather?

I forgot to ask, how in Creation do YOU know which way the broken jaw victim was facing???

40,097 days??? Are you really that flustered??? That would be 109.8 years, lol!!!

I'm not without companionship, at any rate, I have your heartwarming disposition, such that it is, to look forward to each day, LOL!!!

It's amazing how I can say, something broke bones on a person, given that same impact on someone smaller, younger, or on a different area of the body, a death could have occured and IM wrong, but the rest of you can say 'Thank god the fence was there, otherwise so-and-so would have occured'
None of you know that as much as my argument does. The fact is, the fence was there, so you don't know -what would have happened- if it wasn't.
Bottom line is, the fence blew apart and someone was hospitalized for mulitple days and bones were broken.
Time to re-evaluate the sport if anyone thinks that is acceptable.

You thought you might get a rational reasonable response...lol?
As for companionship, it's better to be alone than to be stuck with some folks, if you know what I mean.......

Oooo... Neat.

So I'm more likely to kill myself than to get killed by a tsunami. Interesting.

I also find it interesting that they have a stat for this one:

Just look at the facts. The fence did it's job, people walked away and the car stayed on the track. Sure people were hurt but thank god nothing more serious. How many times have you seen a car go up like that? NOT MANY. Some of these incidents are just a fluke and it is not like it happens every week. NASCAR did it's job and did it right!!

The misspelled name of a dumb Fluck who thinks that NASCAR racing can be made completely safe. Is that sufficient and succinct enough, junior?

You're another one. Can you join one thread without reeking with snideness and condescension? How bad do your days have to be to always be in a foul mood and be personal on every subject, everyday.

At least I can debate something with my opinions and make a point about the point.

How anyone multipled with you is a wonder, but why that person is no longer around you anymore is most certainly, not.

? you'll have to explain that, because I still see the metro and amtrak trains going through town. They didn't shut down the line because of the train wreck.
Ever ridden Amtrak cross country? They drop about 45-50 MPH when they go through those "towns" you mentioned. 80% of Amtraks rails go through rural areas.

Your comparison would be more likened to the sport if Amtrak lined up seats 25 feet from the railroads AND the trains doubled in speed. Amtrak only goes up to 70 miles an hour, not 190-200.

Maro, is this your attempt at advertising your escort service? I thought I saw you the other day when I drove through a local trailer park with a twenty dollar bill taped to the back bumper of my car.

Awww man. Maybe I should not look at the stars. I would be the one to get hit by the asteroid.LOL That's a really cool sight. I saw one a long time ago about the odds when you get out of bed each day. I wish I could find it. I found it rather amusing.

Ever been ran into by a 10,000 ton train doing 45 mph? I'll bet a broken jaw would be the least of your worries! You can get a whole lot closer to a train than you can a NASCAR Racecar!!!

Where do you get your stats? Oh that's right, you make them up, lol!!! Are you sure ir isn't 79%, or even 81%??? LOL???
