Whoever said this last race was no different than any other Dega' race is either retarded or hasn't watched that much S.S. racing. Come on how could you not see a huge difference. You are in the very small minority that see's it that way.
I know you need roof flaps, but that is what caused both Newman and Edwards to get airborne. I wish there was something they could do with them.

How did the roof flaps cause them to get airborne? I thought they were supposed to keep the car down?

It seems when the cars get backwards all that air goes up under the car because the rear bumpers are pretty high off the ground and then the air has nowhere to go to get out since the sides and front bumper are close to the ground so the car gets lifted and airborne. Would it make sense to have some sort of opening in the front bumper if the car gets backwards to let the air out??

From what I've heard it is the wing design. When you are going backwards at that speed it lifts the car up like a plane taking off.

Exactly.

When the wing goes forward, it directs air OVER its surface and pushes down the rear-end.
When it goes backward, it creates lift due to the surface area being the underside tilted up. At over 180mph its liftoff time!

When Ryan was being interviewed it sounded like part of his frustration was that there are better ways to design the car to stop this. Can't blame him for his anger, considering his degree and the fact that he had come close to serious injury or death. It will be interesting to see if he says any more this weekend, or if Ascar has effectively muzzled him.

If God had intended for the cars of tomorrow to fly, they would have been born with wings.

I would like to know Ryan is 5 ft 9 in . What if it had been Joey L or MW who are well over 6ft tall would they have come out of this crash unharmed . Like Ryan stated what made him nervous was the roll cage crashing down on his helmet .

I wondered the same thing. They could have been paralyzed.

Good point. Dave Rodman was talking with Dave Moody on Sirius today and they were saying that Booty Barker doesn't think anything needs to be done with the car or the racing at Talladega. He (Booty) doesn't see a problem with cars getting upside down. Gee...wonder if there's some sour grapes there since he got booted from SHR.

Thank you for the explanation...it didn't make sense that the roof flaps would cause it.

It looks like they (SHR) were already trying to figure out ways to get Ryan lower in the seat.

You could be right he was on twin and I thought he was pretty snotty when SHR was mentioned .Isn't Booty in a wheel chair because a car wreak ?

Actually, Ryan is 5' 11", but you are right-what about the taller guys? However, none of the other guys are nearly as beefy as Newman. He has got to be one of the biggest drivers out there.

I didn't appreciate Bootie's comments. And, yes, he was in a car wreck when he was in high school. You would think he would have been a little more sympathetic.

I can not remember the story now . But when all the talk about Tony becoming SHR . They said one of the 1st people to go would be Booty Barker . For some reason there is bad blood between the two . What it was I can not remember or they didn't go into detail .
