A little bit biased are we? I did the math Friday. Ryan Newman has the best pole percentage in the modern era of NASCAR, and the second best in the history of NASCAR (to Tim Flock, who only ran in 187 races). NASCAR is far, far more competitive these days, than not only the old era, but even from 10-15 years ago. It can be easily argued that he is the greatest qualifier in the history of the sport. His winning percentage is also among the best. Yes, he has had a dry spell. But, there are many factors related to that. This guy can drive a car. Ask Buddy Baker. Rusty Wallace calling someone else "cocky"? I'd say that's the "pot calling the kettle black". The reality was that Ryan was not the "bad guy" in the problems at Penske. And whether you like Kurt Busch or not, the teamwork at Penske is much better now. I would argue that indicates Ryan was not to blame for the teamwork issues that existed a few years ago. You give this guy a winning car, and he will win.

I do have a clue. I am not bashing ryan, I think that he is a great driver and he deserves to be on the pole. So don't get mr=e wrong i have nothing against ryan newman, if Jr doesn't win today I would at least like to Ryan win.

Newman got screwed by big daddy and nascar. Why not a few more second to call that caution the rain on that end looked very minimal. Nascar is destroying itself.

They control caution timing and that track could have been dried most of it was dry. There would have been enough daylight for a shorten race.

"Unfortunately, the rain came on the wrong lap," Newman said. "I'm not mad by any means. I won my first race because it rained out and got too dark. I guess it's only right I lose one that way at some point."

The yellow flag waved on lap 105, just as Newman was trying to dart inside Gordon. But even Newman admitted the track was too wet.

"It rained on me the lap before that, and when we came back around it rained even harder," said Newman, who led twice for 20 laps. "It was pouring at that point. It's all in safety....

"Obviously we were four feet short, but there is no controversy about it. In future reference, there was no way to get the race started back again. They would have had to make a controversial call at that point to shorten the race to a certain lap number with certain teams off sequence. We felt like we had it all figured out until they called it."

Newman was looking for his first victory in nearly two years but instead ended up with his second consecutive runnerup finish. He also has won the last three Nextel Cup poles, too.

More good news for Newman: He's 13th in points, 22 out of a spot in the Chase For The Nextel Cup. And Mark Martin, who isn't running the full schedule, is in 12th place.

"We've just got to keep putting ourselves in position to win," Newman said. "We were half a lap away from winning today. We had a really good car. It was a lot faster than Gordon's at that point."

Please read all who think that the race was controled it was going to rain harder and more I looked at the radar there was no way they could of started again.I love Ryan but Im big enough of a fan to believe that what Nascar did about calling the race was fair no conspiracy Jeff and Latart did a great stratage with a not so perfect car

You are a class act! Even though we hear over and over about Nascar fixing races for Jeff, you have enough to sense to leave that nonsense alone. I know how big a fan you are of Ryan and you don't put blame on anyone because he didn't win. Sometimes these things happen and someone benefits and others may lose out, but you accept that and move on to next week.
Ryan usually runs well at Michigan, so I hope he rewards you with another good finish.
