ANTHONY ANDRO Sam Hornish Jr. has never been as popular in the Sprint Cup Series as he was after his 40th-place finish in the Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway last fall. The reason behind the sudden surge in popularity? I don't care what others say, I am a Jimmie Johnson fan and ALWAYS will be! The people who put him down for winning are the ones who are just jealous that they are not in his position every week, taking the checkered flag!

Here's some simple logic, anyone who isn't the fan of a winner, has to be the fan of a loser. At least in Sprint Cup racing. Jimmie Johnson has the coolest head on him of any driver in motor racing, not just NASCAR. Regardless of what happens, Jimmie and Chad keep their cool and slowly work their way through whatever adversity comes their way. You never see them make such big adjustments to the car that they have to go back and undo them. They're satisfied to lead just one lap in a race, the last one. After all, that's really the only one that matters. If you're tired of Jimmie winning now, you're going to be really exhausted in another few years.

Consider this: It took Jeff Gordon 232 starts to knock out 50 wins. That's 1 win for every 5 races (4.64, actually.)
Jimmie's got 294 starts and is at win #49, which is just 1 win in every 6 races.

YES. This dude is winning way too much!! Gordon AND Johnson. Those numbers are just incredible! And consider Johnson's been said to be the 4th fastest to reach win #50, so its NOT like we haven't seen domination like this before!

All the fans who hate seeing it, hey... Apparently it's the nature of the sport. Gordon's hot streak faded, so at least you have hope that Johnson's streak will too.

The careers of jeff and Jimmie are so much alike it's almost unreal till you peel back the facts to see who the guru was that started it all. Jeff won his first 49 races with Ray Evernham from 1994 through 1999. During that time Ray had a young man named Chad Knaus working for him. Since the 2000 season when Ray started his own team, Jeff has won 38 more races with other crew chiefs but no one has been able to whisper in his ear the way Ray did and the way Chad whispers in Jimmie's. It all goes back to Ray Evernham. Ray was that Cool Hand Luke that never got flustered, keep his driver calm and developed a team that hasn't been matched until the man he trained duplicated it on the 48 team. Would Chad be the crew chief he is if he had not worked for Ray back in the ninties, I doubt it. Would either of this two drivers accomplished what they have without Ray as the real anchor to their careers, I doubt it.
