Why does this guy from Orlando make these statements? He probably has not actively been involved in any type of racing...most likely.

"Imagine if other sports allowed what NASCAR does, writes David Whitley of the Orlando Sentinel."

OK Mr. Whitley, its a team sport! You may have overlooked this as most of the media focus on the guy in the driver's seat..only! Yes - the driver of the Home Depot Monte Carlo is great - the best ever behind a wheel even....(Only second to Alex Zanardi in my book...anyone remember him)...anyway if your star quaterback is injured in the 3rd quarter of the SuperBowl and a old vet that you have on the bench steps in and wins the game...what's the difference? Its still the receivers, lineman, kickers, etc. giving their all for the win. The TEAM wins the game.

When Tony Stewart wins the Cup Championship, the TEAM wins!

At least he shows up to run that first lap....too many are on the bench for whatever reason and still taking the credit.

Why does the tag say Cummings, GA? Gotta be some kind of joke.

Let's try Mooresville, NC!!!

Remember Mr. Zanardi very well. And you are right there is no difference between a backup quarterback coming in and filling in for the injured starter. Every sport does it, The only difference is that the starter in NASCAR has start to get his points. Where as in other sports the starter can sit on the bench and his team can still win the championship.

Ive never heard of that story so I can't help you out there. I agree 100% that Nascar needs to change the rules, if you have a verifiable injury (not the sniffles or a stomach ache) then you should be allowed a backup driver without losing your points. As it is now the system is just asking for drivers to run hurt, potentially injuring themselves further or possibly hurting another driver. I know that Tony's been fitted for a brace and he has a full time sports rehab guy with him in Dover this weekend and he's going to do whatever is safest for him. I just think it's a crime that he has to get in the car for even one lap with an injury of any kind.

I don't think there's a link anywhere. It was something from an interview that some sports channel got a hold of and it's getting blown way out of proportion. He wasn't being serious, but not everyone gets his sense of humor apparently. ESPN I guess mentioned it and now everyone's talking about it. There is no link.
