Ok, I'm confused. DEI will have 5 cars? I thought NASCAR only allows 4 cars with the exception of Roush due to Roush's sponsorship obligations.

I don't know...that is confusing. Maybe because of the Ginn merger last year, they are exempt until '09 as well...just a guess.

I don't know. It sounds kind of strange to me. I thought the only reason Rouse was exempt until the end of '09 was because of his sponsors. I wouldn't think DEI got the same exempt clause as right now they don't have enough sponsors each week. But who am I to know. Maybe someone will know the answer at least I hope so because I'm curious.

Anyone know why DEI can run 5 cars this week?

I sure don't know but why is Regan Smith taken out of his car?? Why did they put him in the 81? This is crazy.....

The way I figured it is the 01 is so close to being out of the top 35 that they put Ron Fellows in it for Watkins Glen the same as they did at Sonoma just to try to get them up in points. RS has no experience at road courses so they don't want to take the chance.

2 reasons I'm thinking to add the 81 instead of benching RS this week are: 1) He needs so experience. 2) Rookie points, right now he is in the lead but could loose it if he doesn't race.

I'm just trying to figure out how they can run 5 cars.

Oh, FYI... Jr will be driving the 5 in the Nationwide race this week (unless things change from now to then). JRM will be fielding 3 cars. The 88, 5 & 48. Doesn't look like he is going to give up the 5 to Ron Fellows. I'm glad he's driving it.

They cannot run 5 cars full time but are allowed to run 7 races with a young/rookie driver. So this means 7 races can have 5 drivers.....Regan being the rookie....

Got it.. I didn't realize that but it makes sense now that you said it.

One other thing.. won't they need an extra team (crew chief and all)? I would think that would be hard to put together especially since Truex is missing his crew chief right now.

Interesting situation though.

I never knew that but it makes good sense, they found a loophole.

They may need to grab one of the nationwide crew chiefs and his crew. Since DEI don't do that series they
may just hire someone else's. I am going to be watching to see what they do. Your correct this
could be interesting......

Here's an article I found on it.

I guess RS has ran too many races to qualify for the 5th car. They could have put AA in it and put RS in the 8 but guess they decided to withdraw the 81.

Snow.. did you notice that they were going to use the 81? Isn't that the number Jr was going to use until Yates was kind enough to hand over the 88? I think it's strange that DEI would have picked that number to put in there.

Yes DEI does some strange things. I guess Truex got a good wad of money to stay. I wanted him to go race with RCR
but I never get my way..lol
