That's because it was never Rob's intent to be successful in Nascar. He wanted to earn the money from "filling in" and put it into his Dakar and Off-Roading businesses. His employees in Nascar are there to earn a check, nothing more. All Rob wants to do is just be good enough not to have to qualify, no more, no less. You will never see Rob's business grow and he will never develop another driver.
Plus, Rob gets to "participate" in the Nascar lifestyle which is more trendy than the off-roader set. Rob gets to be a "star".
Jim Beam and the other sponsors just want to be out on the track. They don't care about where the driver sits in the point standings, as long as it's not in the outside 35 and whatever Rob does off the track is his business.
It's just the way Rob plays the game. Like San Felipe when Rob pulled the legal "rosie ruiz", Rob skirts just enough. But he really is not interested in Nascar that much and he's happy with his three wins and being in the top 35.
