There are 2 comments on the Hampton Roads Daily Press story from Sep 26, 2007, titled Tempers flare during tense race. In it, Hampton Roads Daily Press reports that:

“To salvage a top-10 out of it with the way we started the day. ... There were a lot of good cars that are in the Chase that had a bad day, and not having a bad day is what you've got to do.”

The tension in this Chase for the championship was evident after the first pit stop at Dover, where title contender Tony Stewart angrily bumped Paul Menard because the rookie crowded him. via Hampton Roads Daily Press

For what? He didn't damage the man's car or endanger anyone's life. Had he spun him out, that would have been something to consider. If someone needed penalizing it his team mate Hamlin for going brain dead.
