Restrictor plate rule keeps drivers bunched up as a rule leading to more near fatal crashes especially at super speedways. Loose the plate, allow drivers to have needed speed/HP to avoid trouble. JMO

If they take the plates off, There would be a higher chance of a crash like that being fatal, than with a plate. Besides, The fence did its job, kept the car in the track.

Carl seems to weck at every Dega race anyway. At least this time he did not clear the field like he did before. He is a lucky guy being able to run to the finish line.

That was last year, this is this year. I am sure his teammates have gotten over it.

I know that, but Really, all those he took out need to get over it already. JMO.

Something to be said for and against the plate I agree. My take, bunched up string of drivers, small problem turns into BIG problem for several cars, without the plate the field would open up thus less multiple cars involved in what would hopefully be a single car crash or spinout.

It's really a double edged sword, yes they would be spread out, but at the speeds they would run, one crash could be fatal.

They will still need to control the speed somhow remember when Bill Elliott went 212.
He just tried that again and I just read where a tire blew and he hit the wall. How are you and Bren
doing?I don't see you on here much anymore.I am
excited about the Indy 500. May is always a busy month for us.I try to attend all the events I can weather has been a big problem this year.

I don't know whether Carl was complaining about the plate racing or the double yellow rule when he made his comment. His wreck wasn't really caused by the plate, it was caused because he made a move he shouldn't have and ran into someone who was unwilling to budge. The plates do keep them bunched up, but I'm wondering whether taking them off would really cause the cars to spread out much. I would assume that they would still be able to go around the track wide open. Wouldn't that mean that they still would need to draft to get a little more speed?

In any event, I personally like seeing them driving close together. It puts everyone into the race. So many races are won by whoever happens to get out front after the last pit stop. Who wants another one of those?

We're really good snow. Brenda and I are totally happy here in Nevada. When she moved from Pa to Oregon last year we thought long and hard about moving to Reno (I've lived here on and off before). Life here works really well for us both in all ways. Right you are about me not on topix much these days....I happily work 50+ hours a week and not much time here anymore.
Have a great summer!
