Tough Talk from Granholm on Budget, Taxes
#1 Jun 2, 2007
It's about time that the gov't get out of the spending business. Michigan needs to elimate either the house or senate and only allow them to be in session for no more than 6 months at a time. No new taxes or laws and reduce spending to no more than what was taken in two years in the previous years, no duplication of service provided by the federal gov't or cities or townships. Local gov'ts in michigan need to stop gouging the tax payer by duplication of police and fire departments, really does each township and small town need it's own cop. And does each little berg need a township hall to staff.Or a building department with sec's. and inspectors. this service is provided at the state level. Fire buildings could be located centrally in districts and the duplication of equipment and man power could be cut. The legal system needs reviewed for costs and by getting jail time for crimes in prospective, sending some one to jail for child support or some other non violent crime just runs up the bill for the tax payer. Education spending needs to be limited to K-12.Every college in Michigan is building new facilities as fast as they can and most kids can't even get into a college or has to borrow more money to go and when the get done can't make enough money to support them selves little loan pay it back? Reduce the gas tax, that money is suppost to be for reairing roads not paying over time to police agencies on holidays to selectively enforce seatbelt and druck driving laws on tourist. Over all our gov't needs to get out of the thought that they need to be involved in the controll of our every day lives. All taxes should be sent to the tax payer for review and only inacted if voted on by the masses and put on the ballot only for it's merit with out any attachments to it.And only used for the purpose it was intended along with an expiration date.
