Don't know if I remember this correctly, but I don't believe it was a stunt. Think Tim Flock just had a monkey that he took along with him in the races.

Tim Flock had a monkey ride with him for 8 races in '53. Jocko is still nascars only co-driver and the only monkey with a nascar victory. It did start as a publicity stunt and ended when the monkey got out of its seat and went nuts during a race. Flock had to pit to get rid of the monkey bit still finished 3rd.
