At Daytona, the richest race, only 45 cars tried to get in the race. In Phoenix only 43 cars showed up. How long before a full field of 43 can't be had? NASCAR is losing it's fans and the racing is not getting any better.

I'm with wall in wondering if the new G6 car will look better on the typical oval tracks. I'm hopeful they will look good there, but so far it seems to be at the expense of tracks like Daytona and Talladega. That's why I'm hoping for some changes by Talladega.

I did notice that the stands were emptier than I've ever seen them and that was saying something because they've looked empty in the past, but I've never seen it look THIS empty. I think most people can't afford to go to races anymore especially when the racing itself is boring. I remember when I watched in the mid 90s, racing was great every week. And we had a lot more bumping and banging and real hatred amongst drivers. Now we have diluted clean cut boys racing not to hurt anyone's feelings. The fan's aren't going to show up for that. You've got to get back to people rubbing and banging and fighting all the time. That will put people back in their seats.

But it ain't going to happen with races like Daytona and all you can talk about is how well Danica is doing. We need some tempers flaring and people taking each other out. We need it to be like Dale was when he used to Rattle People's Cages. I think if Dale was still alive, he'd be telling the world how much he hates the state of Nascar these days and how too many candyasses involved now.

I originally thought the low car counts was due to the high-cost to get into the "Gen-6" program by the Cup teams and the shortage of parts and pieces. I thought maybe the top-players were getting all of the "factory" pieces and not leaving much for the single-car-S&P-teams like Phil Parson, etc.

Hell, in the past, it was nothing for Daytona to have 50-55 cars show up for qualification vs. our 45 this season at Daytona.

No matter what you hear from the Demorats, the economy is still tanked and sponsorships are still very ellusive for most teams, especially those single car teams which "field-fill or S&P". The western races are also tough on the smaller teams, with very expensive transportation costs for fuel of trucks and aircraft.

Did I read that Cup-Lite only had 40 cars report to Phoenix?

It will be interesting to see if the car-counts increase as the season goes forward and gets back to the East.

I think I read where they were shorting the 43 cars in the Nationwide races this year to 40.
