Matt Kenseth: Jimmie Johnson is NASCAR's best; deal with it

Oct 30, 2008 Full story: blogs.orlandosentinel.com 8

Give Matt Kenseth a ton of credit. NASCAR created the Chase for the Sprint Cup playoff system because of him and he's now defending the format, even though it's only working in Jimmie Johnson's favor.

I wonder if any of the drivers don't agree with this assessment and if they did they would say it.

I'm guessing Kyle Busch might have something to say.

Hey, Codmuffin! Just a lil reminder... YOUR driver knows who "Da Man" is. Do you? BTW, JJ is the only driver in the Top 12 with a WIN!!!

Ouch! Amen to that, booya. MK has 0 championships in the "Chase".
JJ made the Chase every year and has 4 champioships in a row (working on 5). Nobody else has come close to the "Dominator".

So Matt #17 is not that great? Okay. So what is? Is it because JJ48 is great? Or that Elliott Saddler is not that great? 18 cup wins including two Bristol night races, Coca-Cola 600, admittedly rain Daytona win, but any driver would take that, 90+ top 5's, 150+ top 10's, & oh yeah a championship formed from consistency. NASCAR had to change the rules because of his consistency, but Matt took in to JJ48 down to Homestead twice. Ill admit the Daytona rain win was well "okay, keep the trophy and check, but not the way one would dream, then he backed it the next race with a complete race win with the 24 on his butt the last 40+ laps, solidifying Daytona a bit. Then he has his woes the rest of the season. But now Mr. Consistency is back and could be the first driver to win the championship with a goose egg in the win column, but take the check, deposit it, and hold the trophy proud. A long shot, but Matt can do it if anyone can. But back to "Matt is not that great?" How much cash would you bet that Matt will miss the Chase in the next 5 seasons 2 or more times? So how non great is Matt now? Put your money where your mouth is..

JJ48, Jiffy Jeff, Fat Tony, are the greatest out there right now in my opinion. Their wins and championships prove it. Matt has a lil ways to go to get even the bottom of that best list. Sure he's consistant if you like seeing him run up there but not winning (boring) a race. He's a Top 10 driver at best. He's like that lil kid hanging around the cool kids. The day Nascar has a champion that hasn't won a race is a sad day in Nascar. Ol' Mattie will miss the chase next year cuz I think he lost that edge to seal the deal win races (0 wins this year) and again next year possibly . But hey, thats my 2 cents check on it. Take that to the bank and cash it.
