RYR, I can agree with that. That is, that Juan is a great driver, driving in NASCAR right now. I doubt very much, the same way you do, that he is going to accomplish many things in NASCAR: this only time can tell.
He has accomplished ONE thing: his first victory (not in NEXTEL). Wait and see, you're right. Nothing could damage Monty's career on NASCAR than he believing he's "the mother of Superman", if you follow my drift. He cannot win if he starts to fight everybody, a tendency he has.
For you to compare Monty with Andretti... well, man, thanks in the name of my friends in Bogota that root for Juan. Montoya doesn't deserve that, I could say easily. Mario is a giant in history, JPM is... well, I already said it: just a great driver. He hadn't left a mark in NASCAR, he might, but he hasn't, you're right, and judging by his performance in ovals, that mark, if any, will not happen this year.
He has several disadvantages, as his move on Pruett shows: he comes from F1, where any window, like the one opened by Mr. Pruett HAS to be taken. Some drivers there can spend six months without a single overtake. Nobody in F1 would dream of closing the door the way Pruett did: for starters, each car costs 5 million dollars or more.
NASCAR, on the other hand, requires team work. You cannot be a "loner" and win. I wonder if JPM can do the switch. Montoya is on fire some days, other days he is a shame. He's an inspiring guy, but only when he's inspired. However, Juan is "quite a dish" on a street course... specially compared with many Busch drivers.
Finally, I'm sorry if you thought I was "jumping on you": maybe is our kind of humour down here. I won't yell at you, take that for granted.
Montoya's biggest legacy may be that of bringing some hot latinas to the track. The scenery isn't that good right now if you catch my drift.

No problem and like I said, everyone has an opinion. I have mine and you have yours and we should be able to discuss those opinions without flaming each other. I don't need to say someone sux or say other disparaging remarks to poke a jab at someone because, I don't have a point to my opinion.

So keep up the good posts my fellow Columbian NASCAR Buddy! Hope JPM does well so, good luck to him!

I agree and disagree with you.......Pablo did not have to remove his biggest competition, but he did. His own team mate..... That is not very classy for a new driver to the nascar world. If he pulls something like this in a cup race, he will have no credibilty.........
Why is that every driver is so sorry after the altercation in a race? Pablo is too smart for his own good as of yet in Nascar........ Let's see him drive Tony or Jeff that way in Nascar...?
you are right the cup guys will spin him out so fast..lol......

Now that's the ryr i know with the nice post. Yes i do wish him good luck, i think he will do well. He's already completed one step. Winning, even if its busch its still top level Nascar. I would love to see your racing stats as i race too. Yes i got your stats mixed up with Blaney. It dont matter, I said my piece and yes i was buzzing, Maybe i came across like an idiot but so did you so thats that and its in the past now. If not then thats your problem. Anyways you should come to SC and race me at Pickens short track sometime. I'm an oval guy so watch out. ;)Lets not forget the subject of this post. fans backing Montoya not bashing him. As a new fan. Good F*cking job Montoya!!!!!!!!

Well, this thread shows what Monty is: one of the greatest street drivers the world has seen and one of the most conflicting men in the racing world.
Some of you, like RYR, needs him to win the Cup to say he is great... well, I saw the race. Who else overtook 20 guys in 22 laps, dear RYR? You tell me when THAT happened at NEXTEL, on a street course, please. I'm here to learn, not to complain, specially about other people victories (ehem...):).
I'm eager to learn also when THAT happened, while your crew forced you to do an extra stop, splashed gas on your car and started to wave you goodbye AFTER you moved your car! I've said already, on other thread, that the only thing they didn't do was throwing a match at the departing car, after soaking it in gas...
Look, I thought differently until today, but I think most Busch drivers (Busch whackers included) are unable to handle a car on a street course the way Juan can: the world "bollocks" was invented for some of them. ;)
Guys like Jakke,(this man is a mentat!) knows where Montoya comes from and what he has done: look how he started the thread. No matter what Tina thinks about "The Move on Sylvester Pruett" (arriba, arriba, andale, andale, gringo Pussy-gato!! LOL), Mr. Pruett managed to do the exact same move on Alex García. He even bumped Monty's car AFTER the race was finished, oh, master of the racing etiquette.
Probably Scott was the only one at the track that did not know that Montoya was catching him. How do you call a teammate that closes the door on a car that is 50 kph faster than you and is your "partner"?
Mr. Pruett took that curve the way an old man makes love. Where did he learned to drive? At a mortuary's car school? I bet my daughter can go around that curve faster on her pink kart, the one whith Strawberry Shortcake decals on it, and she is 6...
I've already said this, but is relevant in this thread: I also did not hear anybody here complaining, when some guy put Monty into the wall at NEXTEL and he had to climb out of a car engulfed by flames... where were you RYR? Too busy paying attention to half of the team managers being expelled as cheaters?
Let me tell you Mr. Montoya is not a guy easy to intimidate. Next time Mr. Pruett tries to "close the door" (that's what he did, seen from down here), he'll check to see if it's the number 42 who is coming from behind. Probably the radio on Pruetts car was not functioning and the team did not say to him that Montoya was doing laps 1 second faster than him. Besides, the cr*p about "he only had to wait two more laps to overtake me" is unbelievable... Why should he wait? For Hamilton to catch up?
I know Mr. Pruett can do better, I admire the guy: give him a couple of days and hear his next public statement when he's cooler, as he normally does.
About Monty driving Jeff or Tony, I know he's not that kind of guy. He may crash once in a while, but he's not a villain. He lent his F1 car to Gordon because he admires him as much as I do. He even apologized... AND NO, I'M NOT YELLING! DO YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT YELLING IS, RYR? ;)
Amen! Good post At least were in the same boat. Remember when Newman bumped Montoya into a flaming crash at Homestead. When asked about it he said he didnt care and also replied about the days race "it was awesome racing". He showed class there. I really think he'll do good this year.

Again, not to rehash this but, I never bashed Montoya. Sorry, you took it that way but, as I said to Ciro, just because he has accomplished things in other forms of racing, don't mean his is a "GREAT NASCAR DRIVER". I also said, that IMO one of the greatest drivers, Mario Andretti. Would not make my list of "GREAT NASCAR DRIVERS" either. It doesn't mean he isn't a great driver. Just means he hasn't done much in the Sport of Nascar to get that label!

I'd love to come and race but, haven't been behind a wheel in about 5yrs. Kids and family became more important. They keep me way too busy, my oldest son is racing motocross right now but, has asperations of driving short tracks. I never wanted to race anything but our local track but, that isn't saying I wouldn't have jumped at an offer to drive in NASCAR. I am too old for those youngins now!

Well if your ever come to Pickens we'll turn some laps and talk racing. You'll like Pickens its a short track. As for being too old, Hynton (i think thats his name) you know the guy in his 70's almost made the 500 last month. So you never know. At least you'll be better than Ricky Rudd lol just kidding.:D

Yes, I was pulling for the man. I really wanted to see him make the show but, to face the truth. Nascar wants the younger driver.

You drive Late Model? I'd love to strap in again. I have driven on half mile, 3/8, and 1 mile. My fastest lap was on my half mile home track @ 16.893 sec. I loved driving but, the constant issue with sponsors @ short track racing stinks. The big sponsors didn't want to shell out the money for locals too much.

Even if you are a winner, you need several sponsors to keep the car running and still have to shell out quite a few bucks out of my own pocket!
