Is Knaus not sharing with other Hendrick crew chiefs?

Jun 7, 2009 | Posted by: lilbit88 | Full story: www.timesfreepress.com

Here's a question that has no real tangible answer: Are NASCAR teams racing under the same management really equal? Watching races in recent weeks has led to this curious question.

oh please
The other teams have to want to use his info which some of the other drivers can't drive the car with the same set up that Chad and Jimmie use. Get real and quit blaming Chad because the others aren't open to trying new things

Chad is the most talented crew chief in the business period.

I am not a fan of his or Jimmie's, but these two flat get it done.

The one thing I will say is it has to be hard for him to share information. In about 80% of the races, Jimmie's car doesn't start out that strong. Chad makes the car better from the start of the race to the time the checkers wave. I would think it would be hard to "share" information during that timeframe. He has the 48 to worry about, not the 5, 24, or 88.

Reguardless, I would be happy have him call the race for my driver.

Why would any team in any sport share information that could give the competition the winning edge? They are competing, which means, you do what you can to win. All these teams are supposed to be professional (which is questionable in the case of Earnhardt Jr) so it is their responsibility to find the set up that works for them and helps them win. To expect the competing teams to hold your hand and share their notes with you is ridiculous. Do you suppose that football teams share their playbooks with the opposing team? I bet not!

This is just another whine story to point out that everybody isn't helping Junior to win his championship. Apparently it's not important enough to Jr that he's willing to adjust his attitude, focus and work at winning his own championship, he expects it to be handed to him with little or no effort on his part. He needs to grow up and either piss or get off the pot.

Junior don't need any help when it comes to cheating, NASCAR has given him his own rule book with rules that only apply to NASCAR's most popular crybaby.

Chad is an evil mastermind who has figured out that clean air makes it so that no one can catch the lead car,, so he tries to get Jimbob the pole so they can have the first pit stall. but if that fails, they take the last one because the drivers around him will be lapped soon... Chad is a strategist and as a race fan, I do not appreciate him and his miracles. Jimbob is not as talented a driver as many.. and if Chad doesn't cheat, as he used to do each win,, and they can't get the first pit stall,, they count on miracles from Nascar, like Jimbob not being lapped when caught in the pits when a caution came out... Biffle talked about it but NASCAR thinks the fans are drunk and they can get away with that crap... last week Jimbob getting passed,, is yelling "NASCAR oil is turn 2"... which was a lie..just like the phantom debris calls to let the HMS cars catch up used to be..and now with double file restars.. Jimbob is not going to dominate any longer..unless they get caught cheating after winning like in the old days 3 years ago... every win followed by "the 48 car was too high.. or too low" Chad is an evil cheating genius

Despite all these idiotic comments about Chad cheating and the even more insane comments about Jimmie not being able to drive, Chad is a great crew chief and Jimmie a great driver. You can share information to a certain point, because sharing that info makes the whole team better. You give some and you get some. Every crew chief must make the decisions for his own team at some point, sharing info can only get you so far. It's not Chad's, or any other crew chiefs, job to take care of everyone in the organization. They can help the others at times, but their ultimate responsibility is to the team and driver that they manage. I'll keep my comments about Jimmie's driving ability to a minimum here. I think that anyone, including the fools who make these comments about how it's all chad, know how ridiculous and jealous they truly are. No one gets 42 victories and 3 straight championships, not to mention the top 5's, 10's that Jimmie has without being able to wheel a car. Chad is great, not question about that, but at the end of the day every driver has to perform on the track. We all know how ridiculous this nonsense about first pit stall is. If getting that was always the difference, Ryan Newman would have Jimmie type numbers. Please move on from the foolish talk. It just makes you look like a complete idiot when it comes to knowledge of racing. You don't have to like someone to show some intelligence. I didn't like Dale Sr. but for me to claim he had no talent, would make me look as foolish as you do. I prefer not to come off as a jealous fool, but hey, maybe you enjoy being perceived that way. More power too you I guess.

His obligation is to his owner. If Rick says he expects everyone to share, then they'll share. If he said go over to Jrs team and be the crew chief there, he'd go over to Jr's team and be the crew chief there. If JJ ever decides to be an owner, then his crew chief will be obligated to do as he wants.

I don't buy the idea that he doesn't share though, the HMS teams are too strong for there to be much internal tension. I've heard in interviews where Tony indicated that even he gets to see the data from the HMS cars.

Good point! I love it when somebody gets it.

Knaus is the best at finding "grey areas" in the rule book, or altering the rules. I would say cheating, but I really can't say that there is anyone in the garage that does NOT cheat.

Hendrick has four teams. Say Knaus finds something that might be borderline, if not TOTALLY illegal...

He can't go to another crew chief and say "Hey, I'm using this cheat next week. You should try it too!"

Reason?

When you find a cheat on one car of a four car team, guess who gets to get their cars torn down in post race or post qualifying inspection looking for the same thing?

A crew chief must take responsiblity for the choices he makes on a car's race prep. He realizes that ultimately the performance of the car is on his shoulders. Its a big risk vs. reward proposition.

Also understand that at any team, all teams have different sponsors to answer to and to also give their best effort to. Chad Knaus is as loyal to the millions that Lowes pays as he is to Johnson, or Hendrick. They pay him a lot of money to be the best.

This is one of the things that makes Cup so interesting. You compete against EVERBODY!

Thank you for recognizing that his obligation is to his employer. They're sharing. The fact is that like someone else said, his cars usually aren't that great starting a race and then he gets it right by the end. While you can share the set up at the end, you can't share that ability to find that set up throughout a race.

Information is great but it's all about what's done with it and if you don't know how to use that information correctly, you're not going to do well.

And the only problem with Jr is himself. He and Eury Jr let the fans get to them. Eury said that himself. He stopped talking to Jr on the radio because the fans were scrutinizing everything he said. WHAT??? So now Jr's got to learn how to suck it up and do his job. Until then, mediocrity is what he's destined for.

LOL, i am well aware of his owner, who respects him greatly. He has earned the right to do whatever he wants. If he wanted to perch his ass on top the 24 box he would. Rick would never pull him from the 48 team.

I don't know if he shares info or not. He don't say much, but i agree with your statement about the teams being so strong, he must share some. And finally he is no cheater and everyone knows it.

Then explain the fines and suspensions? Just a figment of all of our imaginations or a delusional Johnson fan? What are you gonna do when Hendrick's replaces Johnson with Tony's monkey Mojo and Chad keeps winning races?
