Lost in the drama of the late-race showdown between Mark Martin and Juan Pablo Montoya last Sunday was another strong run for Jimmie Johnson.

Out of the spotlight but right in the hunt is the position I would want to be in! JJ get's to win races and be in the chase yet avoid all the haters following his every move like Dale Jr. No one to rip apart his wife, no one to speculate endlessly about his personal life, no one to berate him for every accident or mistake made out on the track. I think its a great position to be in.

I like this post too. He just goes about his business, doing his job (and very well I might add) and getting it done.

I'll state that once more: his status is provided by his on-track performance, just the way I like it. I dont care what drivers do off on their boat or whatever. And its good that he's not got a curse of some sort or some haunting ghost of a legend he can never be.

He came, he saw, he conquered. Thank goodness for Jeff Gordon spotting that talent and grabbing it!
