denny hamlin needs a dose of tommy ellis or sonny hutchins at southside speedway outside of richmond. either would have taught young mr hamlin a lesson or two both on and off the track. not a doubt!!!!!

Ed. Good article re Hamlin v Petty. I'm old enough to say that at age eight I stood in line at Greenville Pickens Speedway to get Richard Petty's signature autograph on my arm. Didn't wash that arm for days. He and his entire family were are are truly ambassadors for this sport. So while Petty Enterprises is a long way from where they were (and it is sad to see the demise of Petty and the Wood Brothers--two of the best damn auto racing teams the world has ever known), they do deserve respect. Hamlin is a talented driver but oftentimes as you well know drivers begin to believe their own press releases. This isn't unique to motorsports. But Kurt Busch needed a yanking to make sure he knew this game is a privilege not a right just because you are good; and Tony Stewart, while a brilliant racer, sometimes ain't too people smart; and Kyle Busch heaven knows need a little humility (the Busch boys' poppa didn't teach those boys manners); Hamlin needs a little Woodshed Talk by Coach Gibbs. Just cause you are good don't make you a nice person. And he could use some niceness. You would expect a faster Hamlin to run over a slower competitor if it was down to the last 10 laps or done to the last Chase race, but the jack up someone early like that and not only take out that guy but to ruin your own chances that day and affect a third party who just happens to be around you, well that's irresponsible no matter how you look at it. And to chide Petty for it is childish. Sometimes Kyle can be a bit immature but most people will cut him a break because he has turned that immaturity around to make a great contribution to humanity. Plus I cannot imagine what it would be like to lose a child. So Denny needs to "stand down" say he is sorry and go on with his Chase chances, which are severely limited now by his own hands. Read this Hamlin: grow up Boy!

Unfortunately too many of today’s younger drivers and fans have no respect for the history of the sport. Worse yet, it seems that NASCAR itself has suffered memory lapses when it comes to it’s own history in an effort to change racing from a sport into an “show”!

Seems to be another case where one driver blames the other. Had the roles been reversed, I'm sure Petty would have been blaming Hamlin for holding him up.
As for lack of respect, people in general don't show respect as they use to.
With the money that is thrown at atheletes in all sports where do you think their interest is going to be. It's get it done now or you are out. The way it use to be (respecting others) is about died out (much like the Petty name).
Oh for the goos old days?????

I feel bad for him but it's part of racing it happens and not only to him.

Kyle Petty is a nobody who would be driving jalopies if his last name was not Petty.

Hamlin did what he had to do. So did old-school racers.

Kyle Petty needs to stick to doing charity work. Dick Petty was no king though he at least had some skills.

GOD BLESS ALL YOU PETTY'S. YOU'LL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. THE EARNHARDT OF LATE AND PETTY WILL LIVE IN EVERY RACERS HEART FOR LIFE. NOW, WHAT JR. DID, IS A PERSON TO PERSON FIGHT EVERYDAY. I KNOW I'LL NEVER BE A HENDRICKS FAN, SO THAT SAYS HOW I FEEL. ONLY BECAUSE OF THE PRETTY BOY JEFF GORDON, CAN'T STAND HIM. GO HARVICK AND TRUEX JR. FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP?????????? LITTLE E. IS NO LONGER A PART OF MY RACING STABLE!!!!!

Remember when Robby Gordon wrecked Mike Skinner... I think at Bristol or maybe Martinsville. Afterwards, on the radio, Gordon said, "I thought we needed a caution so I got us one." Afterwards, Richard Childress had a word with Gordon and that crap never happened again. Sometimes these guys just need to be taken out behind the woodshed. That's what Kyle did. And for the record, no, Kyle wouldn't have done it. remember a few years ago when Bobby Labonte wrecked and his car caught fire? Kyle wasn't involved but he stopped on the track and made sure Bobby got out before continuing. THATS the kind of man he is.
No matter how long Jeff Gordon or Tony Stewart drive race cars they will never be as good as Richard Petty was. No one, even on his best day will ever be the man that Kyle Petty is. And Adam Petty didn't just show up. He made a difference and you can see that difference every time you lg onto victoryjunction.org .

It's obvious your memory isn't long enough to go back to the days Kyle was driving for Felix Sabates. His name wasn't driving that car, he was. I doubt if you know much at all about Kyle Petty, you certainly don't know anything about "Richard". You're the only dick involved here.

You obviously lack even general knowledge of this sport. Grow up you little piss ant wanker. I bet all three Denise Hamlin fans are something like this little punkster.

And tell the other two that I said the same thing about them.

Petty is just a grid filler, kick his ass off the track and give his spot to a real driver. Kyle is better in the booth then that those two bozos, Mikey and Darrell Waltrip

Kyle Petty is riding coattails. Always has been. His performance under Sabates says more for Sabates' organization being on the mark than it does for Petty.

And Dick Petty couldn't shine Earnardt Sr's shoes.

You idiots would not even be watching Nascar on T.V. if it were not for Richard Petty and those like him. Dale Sr included! And they are certainly not the only legends!

Truly moronic statements from someone who rides bandwagons and knows nothing about NASCAR. Troof Kyle drives with heart and without the funds of the Super teams. Yes maybe his time has come to retire, but its hard to let go look at DW, Petty, and even your beloved SR was on his way down in wins before his unfortunate death. I'll bet you have an 8 pillow while you sleep you baby! You can take 80 pct of the drivers out there to drive the fed-ex car and have success. Give the guy a break he is in a chase of his own for top 35 in points. Heck even Boyer said he just ran over him!

Hey!!! Don't go soiling the Intimidator's name. Dale Sr. and RICHARD (not Dick) had the utmost respect for one another. They would mix it up on the track but leave it there. They also knew how to mix it up without punting each other.

I agree with the comment on Kyle about him being a better driver than he is given credit for. If it wasn't for Kyle Petty, Felix Sabates might not have had a racing organization at all. A big example of his impact is the fact that Felix sold a good portion of his control to Chip and another is the fact that they haven't done a whole lot of winning since he left in 1996. Kyle is one of those drivers who never quite got the luck that other drivers like Jeff, Jimmy, and even Denny who received 1'st class rides at the beginning of their careers and excelled. He had to work hard and buck a lot of crap from those who questioned his talent and his dedication in order to prove that his name meant more than just Petty. At least Kyle was in the running for champion in 1991 and 1992 finishing 5th both years with Robin Pempberton as his crew chief. If you are going to slam Kyle for being a has been, at least grab a NASCAR history book and learn more about what NASCAR was, and what a joke it's getting to be.
