John Andretti and Chad McCumbee will replace Kyle Petty during his five-race hiatus this summer.

Petty is getting out of the No. 45 Dodge to be an analyst for five of the six races that TNT will broadcast this season. Petty plans to race the road-course in Sonoma, Calif., during that stretch.

McCumbee will attempt to make his Nextel Cup debut on June 10 at Pocono Raceway, and Andretti will drive the other four. The 22-year-old McCumbee in his second season in the truck series. Andretti, who used to drive the No. 43 Dodge for Petty, will run the races at Michigan, New Hampshire, Daytona and Chicago. Read more

it is about time you need to put somebody in the car that wants to race and win not just ride around

I'm with you on this. If Petty Enterprises would get some tallent for the 45, like they did by putting Labonte in the 43, and Richard would come off of the checkbook, they might actually start finishing some races in the top 20. No wonder STP dropped them like a bad habit.

My father was a diehard Richard Petty fan. Richard was the first NASCAR drivers autograph I got. We would stand in line all day at their open house to get a new autograph. Kyle was one of my favorites back when he drove for Felix. Kyle is a super person with a heart of gold but it's time for him to step aside and let someone else give the 45 a whirl. He's like Michael Waltrip, he simply has too much going on to be able to give driving the car the concentration it takes to successful. Winning races is what it is all about and Kyle can't do it.

I thought the same thing until I heard Kyle speak on why he is still driving the 45 car. With little success, why is he still behind the wheel? Why would he not be in the legendary 43 car that his father made so famous? The response he gave answered everything. The 45 car was Kyle's son Adam's ride when he was killed in a racing accident during a cup practice, I believe in Louden NH. He said that losing his son was very hard for him, as it would be for anyone. But that when ever he was behind the wheel of the 45 car, that then was the time he felt the closest to his lost son. After that, my questions as to why he continued to race when he rarely finished inside the top 20 ceased. As if the Petty's needed any more reason to respect them, his comments made me respect them even more. I just hope that the 45 car does get to victory lane soon, that would be a very emotional win for everyone that has ever watched and followed cup racing.

I hope he can keep the car in the top 35 before he lets the other drivers take the wheel. If not it may not make the race. He is about down to the nitty gritty now..

I saw where Andretti was scheduled to run some races. I saw John today driving the IRL Panther racing car.He was pretty slow compared to all the others.

I'm a die hard Kyle fan. The last 2 years he has been doing much better.I would hate to see Kyle retire.I love seeing him comintate, but when he's in the top 20 (which is better than a lot of drivers)it makes the whole race for me.
And I hope if he is going to hire someone, please hire a rookie, not a driver we have already seen and did not like.

I'm a Petty fan and I just want to remind those who think he should get out of the driver's seat that Kyle did in fact win races, an achievement some never get, and on an even brighter note, Kyle just finished 3rd in the Coca Cola 600. Now before you cry about it being a gas mileage race, ask yourself, would you rather a race finishing under caution or rain delay or a gas mileage race ;-) Kyle and his team earned the 3rd, and to us the fans, we just love it!!:-)

I don't give a fat rat's butt what the circumstances are for Kyle to finish third, I am tickled pink for him. It's just a shame it wasn't first place. He ran good all night. They are improving. Currently Bobby is only 89 points out of 12th place. It would be great for one of their cars to make the chase.

Petty Enterprises were thinking Bobby could get in the top 25 after every thing is said and done this season. Right now they are above par, by far.

I don't think I have been as happy at the end of a race as I was Sunday night since I watched Richard win his 200th back in 84. I am just so glad I got to be there. This past weekend meant more to me than anyone can ever imagine. I had to use my air bottle a little but that was okay. I hated to see Jeff get wrecked but I loved the finish. Kyle Petty is a true gentleman and a class act.

WHEN I WAS INTRODUCED TO NASCAR, MY HUSBAND ASKED ME WHAT DRIVER I WANTED. I SAID "WELL THAT MELLO-YELLO CAR LOOKS GOOD AND THE DRIVER IS REALLY CUTE, TOO", SO I'VE BEEN A KYLE FAN EVER SINCE. I LOVE KYLE AND SUPPORT HIM IN EVERY WAY. I WAS REALLY PRAYING FOR A WIN IN THE 600 LAST WEEKEND, BUT WAS SATSIFIED WITH 3RD. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, KYLE.
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND WATCH OVER YOU EVERY DAY!
