it was an impound race. the top 35 guys set their cars in race trim, not to qualify - therefore the go or go homers got a break and qualified better. otherwise he would have been near the back once again

mikee stinks. plain and simple. whiner. I say he tries to save his season by putting someone nascar would love in the race. like a minority driver, even a double minority driver. say, oprah... yeah, cause he would improve his driver position by 27 points, and she could get the same number of qualifying points that he gets every week as well.

Waltrip would have never won a race if it wasn't for Dale Earnhardt feeling sorry for him. He is a cry baby just like his brother.

Since when has racing (or any other sport) ever been fair? I for one am sick of even hearing all this crap about fairness. Sure, we could make Gordon, Stewart, Johnson, Kenseth, etc. all qualify in reverse. Guys like Michael could than maybe make a race or 2, but they'd still finish 32, 35, 40...
What it really comes down to is this: We need the superstars, the average-drivers, those that don't really compete. These different levels are what make up any sport or contest. If everybody was Martin, Burton, Harvick, etc... it would remove all excitement for me. I like to see someone unexpected win the race sometimes, or just get a good finish. If they're all equal than those things mean nothing. I want to see Jimmie Johnson go on a 5-6 race tear and win the cup; Kyle Petty or Ward Burton pull off the unforeseen win, etc. etc... Those are the things that make racing and all other competitive events worth watching.

Fact is, not ALL of the guys in the top 35 were in race trim for qualifying. I just posted this list on the other thread, but out of the top 35 guaranteed spots, these guys qualified in the top 20, showing that not everyone was in race trim that was guaranteed a spot:
Jeff Gordon, Gilliland, Johnson, Kenseth, Ragan, Hamlin, Biffle, Rudd, Kyle Busch, Mears, Edwards. All of them qualified top 20. Michael qualified 20th. So no, he wouldn't have qualified in the back if EVERYONE had been in qualifying trim. You can't say that for sure because I've just proven you wrong.
Either way, Dale Earnhardt only felt sorry to see such a talent go to waste driving inferior cars, which is why he gave Michael the ride. They were like brothers, more so than Michael & DW were.
Last but not least, go call Ward Burton the cry baby. He's the one who started this whole fuss about the qualifying procedures. All Michael said was that the non top 35 cars should qualify at the same time so nobody has a weather advantage. Sounds fair to me.

Michael is only one of a group of drivers & owners that are talking with NASCARs Pemberton & other officials about qualifing! Michael just gets the press! If you think Bill Davis & the Wood Bros. aren't in on these discussions you need to wake up! And smell the exhaust fumes!

So, Michael Waltrip is not fast enough to make the race and he wants to change the rules. I have two words for Michael, TOUGH S**T !!
His great star Mr. Jarrett has now run out of Champions provisionals and I hope he will be sitting on the sidelines this weekend along side his boss.
If you can't make the race, take your rice burning, toyota driving, cry baby A** back to Owensboro or tokyo or where ever you come from.
It would seem that if after nine races,(YES I SAID NINE RACES,) your grand total in points is NEGATIVE 27,(YES I SAID NEGATIVE 27) Nascar could find a better consultant on rule changes.

Once again, I really wish you morons would READ what was said before posting stupid crap. Michael didn't say change the top 35 rules. ALL he said was to have the non top 35 cars qualify at the same time to avoid unfair weather advantages. Do you people actually READ anything or just spout off at the mouth and don't care how stupid you make yourself look?

When I said smell the exhaust fumes, it was a joke! So pretty much no matter what MW does you hate him be cause 1-he left DEI? 2-he's in with Toyota? 3-He's popular, living his dream & is being beat on like a dead horse & you couldn't wait to get to your place in line? OOPS almost forgot 4-all the above!

All cars should have to qualify every race based on speed. No provisionals!

I could live with that! This would really be interesting during a lock down race, talk about unscheduled pitstops, plus it would make qualifing more interesting to a larger group of people. It may even end up more viewers for the quals. than the race!

They will never do that because they don't want to take a chance on not having their big names in the races. They may cut down the number of automatics from 35 to a lesser amount allowing more cars to get in on time but they will not do away with provisionals all together. Remember, these drivers earn the provisionals and they can run out of them witnessed by Dale Jarrett. He has used all of his up and now has to qualify to get in.

And if NASCAR had that rule implemented, Michael would have made all but 2 races this year.

Renee then he would deserve to be in the race, but one thing is for certain we can expect constant changing of the rules from WWENASCAR

True that WWE. We've looked at the stats and Michael's CONSISTANTLY beat out Kyle Petty in nearly EVERY qualifying effort so far except when Michael spun in Atlanta qualifying and also Bristol. Michael has beat top 35 cars in every friggin qualifying effort this year but those two that I mentioned. Even for the Daytona 500 he qualified 25th in a "loaded" car, but he qualifies 20th at Dega in the car he raced the Duels and the Daytona 500 with and doesn't make either race. That's sad.
You are correct, NASCAR will ALWAYS be changing rules when it suits them. Conspiracy theorists are already on the fact that when a Hendrick car is on the verge on having to qualify on time from now on, suddenly NASCAR wants to change the rules.

would Michael be complaining about this rule if he was in the top 35? No. Its only now because of the situation he's in that he wants the rules changed. I don't think so.
