There is an article on foxsports.com saying that he will become part of GEM starting next year.

Sounds like a 4th car to me. Which doesn't surprise me, because Ray's been wanting one for a while now.

I like Reed. I think he will fit in well with GEM. I REALLY hope they keep Patrick, I'd hate to see him leave:(

Okay guys...according to NASCAR.com the story is this...

The plan is to have 4 cars in 2009, with Patrick staying. It's just coming down to sponsorship. As long as they can find sponsorship for BOTH Reed & Patrick, then they'll expand to 4 cars. If they can't do that, then Patrick is going to be out. Reed said they're working really hard to find sponsorship for Patrick, but that's all he knew about it.

Target is rumored to be bailing on Ganassi so I wouldn't be surprised if they follow

Target just signed an extension with Ganassi. So NO, they won't be coming with Reed to GEM.

I heard Target wasn't happy with Reed's performance. Which isn't surprising to me since they barely had any of his merch in their stores. To me, that says a lot about their support.

If they can't find another sponser then Patrick is out. That's what Nascar.com is saying. He only has a contract through the end of the year which hasn't been extended yet. And Reed signed a mulit-year deal. I hope it all works out. I like Patrick and have heard some bad things about Reed's attitude and how he has been treating Target and people at Ganassi.

Apparently Patrick has an option they can pick up on his contract...which I didn't know about! I've read like 8 million articles about him over the last couple of days, so I don't know which one said that though.

And yeah, apparently Reed missed an important Target appearance or something. I read that on Track Smack (I believe) on NASCAR.com earlier this year. I don't really know if it's true or not, but if it is..WOW.

Ooh nevermind...found the article about Patrick!

"Carpentier remains under contract with GEM, but has agreed to a four-week extension on the deadline. The organization has an option on the driver's services for 2009, said Mark McArdle, GEM's vice president for competition."

Whoa, Reed is coming to GEM? I'm slow, I didn't even know he was out of Ganassi for sure. I'm surprised that they're actually expanding to four, when it seems that Patricks car just isn't up there with Kasey's and Elliott's. I like Reed, I'm glad he's with us, but I just don't see how it's a wise decision. I was thinking a down grade to two would have been better, put more focus on their better drivers.

Well, Ray's been wanting a 4th car for a while now...so it doesn't really surprise me. The GEM people (not sure if it was Mark McArdle or someone else) said that the plan is to expand to 4, as long as they can find sponsorship for both Patrick & Reed.

Honestly though, I know where he is in the standings doesn't look too good, but you can definitely see an improvement in Patrick. He's able to run with the leaders when they have his car good...which I got to witness in person when I went to Michigan a couple weeks ago. He ran in the top 10 for almost half the race before they messed up the setup and it just wasn't the same after that. I think it also comes down to him explaining the car properly...which he's still learning, and Kasey & Elliott are helping him with that. You also have to remember it's his first year in stock cars, so it's still kinda new to him. I mean, look how AJ did his first year...not so great. I know he's still out of the top 35, but AJ's made a HUGE improvement this year. I just don't want them to give up on him already...but like I said, it comes down to sponsorship, so there's really nothing they can do. Reed will get priority (for the 10, if it comes to that) because of his contract.

No, I love Patrick, I don't WANT them to let him go. But like you said, if it came down to getting rid of one of them, it would be Patrick. I think he's a good driver, just too inexperienced at stock car racing. He'll get better, he's already starting to. I just think that perhaps they'll be spreading their staff too thin with four teams, maybe taking people away from Elliott and Kasey that are better at what they do than others, and adding them to Reed and Patrick in order to level the playing feild, but that would make Kasey and Elliott worse. I don't know, it's hard to explain what I mean, but I just don't know if four teams is a good idea. I love Reed though, I'm really glad that he's with us.

I'm curious about something, however, what will happen to Reed and Patrick if they don't get sponsors? Reed already signed his contract, right?

Yeah Reed signed his contract...so like I said, he'll get priority for the 10. It would be pretty sad if they don't find a sponsor for Reed though, seeing as they signed him before they had any sponsors in place.

I do see what you're saying about the 4th car, and I kinda agree with you. But you look at RCR, who are saying that they NEED the 4th car to be more competitive...maybe that's what GEM's doing too? Who knows! I agree with the crews part too...I don't want to see that happen! But as long as Kasey & Kenny are together, then I'm happy.

Patrick's already saying he's gone. And I don't like hearing him talk like that...because it's not over yet! Here's what he said:

Canadian #10-Patrick Carpentier says “It’s over,” at the end of the year, after his one season with Dodge car owners Ray Evernham and George Gillett.“They hired Reed Sorenson for next year, so it’s over,” Carpentier says.“They’re working on a fourth team and looking for sponsorship, but you know how that goes.” So Carpentier says he’s a free agent.“I’m talking with other teams to see what’s out there,” the Montreal native says.

Aw, I feel bad for him! I really hope they do manage to find sponsors for both of them.

There is one benefit of having more teams, though. I'm pretty sure I've heard that the more teams you have, the more information you can get on researching and stuff, therefore you can improve all of your cars faster. Hopefully if they do have 4 teams (and now I really hope they do) it'll be good for them, and only make them better. I just don't see how Reed can get any worse than he's got. I actually think he'll do a lot better with GEM. I mean, our guys just qualified 4th, 5th and 6th; Reed ended up 41st. I think he's better than what he's been showing with Ganassi, and maybe he can prove that with GEM.=]

(I wrote this in Klub Kahne, but I'm too lazy to re-type so I'll just copy-paste it)

Patrick did an interview today and the transcript is on motorsport.com . He said that GEM broke the news to him right before Bristol about Reed's signing, and he said it sucks to know someone is going to take your ride. GEM is allowing him to talk to other teams now, they aren't going to hold him back. He said that if he finds another ride that's decent, and they still have nothing for him sponsorship-wise at GEM, they won't make him wait and will let him take the other opportunity. He has no hard feelings towards Reed or GEM. He thinks it'll be easier to find a sponsor for Reed than for himself. He said they are still trying VERY hard to find sponsorship, with hopes of expanding to 4 like planned. He hopes he'll be able to stay, but is still going to look for other opportunities just in case it doesn't work out at GEM.

Awe, I really hope that Patrick gets to stay! It's not good to have the defeatest (sp?) attitude already because it could effect his racing. Supper happy the boys qualified 4,5,&6 tho!!

After what that (nasty) Sabates guy said about Reed and then Havoline (a curent soon to be past) sponsor I wouldn't want anything to do with Ganasi/Sabates racing.

As for Reed's performance it's not like another Ganasi driver has done anything worth talking about.

I like Patrick and Reed so hope things work out for both of them.
