Bob Griese Apologizes for "Taco" Comment About Juan Pablo Montoya

"During ABC's Ohio State-Minnesota football game Saturday, there was an on-air promotion for the network's NASCAR coverage Sunday that included a reference to Colombian driver Juan Pablo Montoya not being among the top five drivers in the NASCAR standings.

If a race driver was a cattle rancher and Griese had said the driver was out eating a steak, nothing would have been wrong.

And Ryan Newman isn't in the top five because he was out getting are Martinsville hot dog. BFD.

Huh??? How can you compare a cattle rancher out eating a steak to JPM and eating a taco?!?!?

Last time I checked JPM is from Columbia not Mexico where the "taco" is from... I guess you just dont get it! I do think the suspension is going a bit too far, but then I'm not Columbian and according to comment made yesterday by one of JMP owners (a Columbian) they dont have "taco's" in Columbia!

What is especially halarious is that JMP said he didnt even know who Greise was...which I think is the same for about 95% of Americans...never heard of the racist until this comment!

It's bad enough that the some ignorant fans of NASCAR will thell you accept Italians, Canadians, Austrailians in NASCAR, but not that JPM... because he's a Mexican!!!! Who gives a shite! JPM is a fantastic driver. This crap pisses me off that people can be SO ignorant! JPM because he is from Columbia and not ANGLO!

Bring on the RED "X's" from being Judged... I dont care. JPM is my 2nd driver and proud of it!

If 95% of all Americans do not know who Bob Greise is then we have the most ignorant sporting fans in the world. I am a very big racing fan, however, must admit that racing still ranks #2 to Football, in this country. Bob Greise was just the quaterback on the only perfect football team in the NFL during the current playoff foremat. The 1972 Dolphins are just the team that every other team is judged against when it comes to perfection. It was just two years ago that the New England Patriots were being compaired when they went 16-0, but then lost in the Superbowl.

We are getting so dam political correct that everybody can see a bigot behind every rock and non injurious statements such as made by Greise are seen as attack based. Tony Stewart has taken advantage of his more than slim profile in doing the Burger King spots, Michael Waltrip is doing his best "Village Idiot" impression in hawking everything from NAPA parts to rent to own over priced junk and Dale Jr. and his drawl talking Nationwide Agent are doing everything to reinforce the dim witted, slow talking "Southern Hick" in his Nationwide commercials.

Why are we not more thin skinned when it comes to making light of regions of this country and only feel artificial anger when the statements are about people who happen to be of different origin, race, religion of sexual proclivity.

Montoya could find fun in the statement, however, the PC Nazis are offended? Give me a break.

On an ending note, I have often wondered why so many people can find mean spirit in the name Washington Redskins, however, say nothing about the "Fighting Irish". Oh well, I guess all Irish must be Dumb Micks who would rather fight than have sex.

I will agree with you. I grew up in the same city as Greise. He was a natural gifted athelete. Played three sports at Perdue University, football, basketball, baseball. As you stated,he was the quarterback on the 1972 Miami Dolphans superteam. I am not surprised Montoya has never heard of Greise, although he lives in the very city (Miami) Greise worked and played professional football in for many years. That is the disconnect I see in the U.S.I grew up in and the one I see today.I agree, Bob Greise made a statement while he knew nothing about the man.Taco is mexican food not Colombian.
