Petty questions NASCAR's point-swapping rules
#1 Feb 6, 2009
I have alot of respect for Richard Petty, but he's just bitter because it was the team with his name on it(i cant even say it's his team cause it's Gillett's team) that got screwed because it was their driver, but Nascar made their decision and it's just manipulating the system, as i guarantee you Gillett would do if he had the opportunity. As a matter of fact, Gillett was trying to purchase Bill Davis operation, not only for the 22 owner points, but also for the Toyota support to switch his cars over, but couldnt get the financial backing to do so. My opinion on it is that it is no different of a team buying owner points, as Penske did from Davis and RCR did of EGR, than it is of a team buying a driver with a past champ provisional, which was created when Richard Petty missed a race in the 1980's so if he has no problem with that rule, then he shouldnt have one with what Penske and RCR did and i dont blame those teams looking out for their investment as Penske does Mobil One and RCR does with Cheerios.
