Does'nt anyone remember Talladega 2009?
All's even now. Let's race again.
Auto racing is a SPORT.
That's it. That is all it is. When YOU as a fan buy a ticket for an NFL Game, do you worry about a 250lb linbacker running full-speed into the stands and hitting you at full force? Do you expect a 95 mph fastball to hit you in the face during a Major League Baseball game?
There are times when a bat flies into the stands, times when a golf ball hits a spectator, or times when an NBA player collides with a patron in a floor-side seat, but...
A stock car going 190mph at NASCAR's fastest non-plate track should NEVER be used as an instrument to take out another car right in front of hundreds of fans in a given section of stands.
I have watched this sport most of my life, and what I saw on Sunday disgusted me to the point of nausea. Somebody mentioned Earnhardt earlier - well Earnhardt was just as famous for getting in your face AFTER a race and telling you what for if he didn't like what happened on it.
A PROFESSIONAL sport means that those who play it must act with some level of PROFESSIONAL-ISM, meaning reigning in their emotions, as to not look stupid when temper is lost. You do not prove your point or get revenge by putting someone who is not competing in danger of losing their life and if the best you can do, is point to some sort of payback as justification, then you have made a commentary about what NASCAR has become...
If I were running NASCAR, Carl Edwards would be finding something else to do for the rest of this racing season. He would be suspended from NASCAR competition for the rest of this year, and a clear message would be sent to all competitiors...
"YOU WILL ACT PROFESSIONALLY at all times and NEVER needlessly put at risk the health or lives of those outside of the sport. Any act crossing this line will be met with IMMEDIATE suspension or termination from NASCAR competition."
A life is not worth this stupidity.
