I knew someone would come up with this one.
I was looking more for a take on the 'support role' team aspect as it relates to the car and development.
I will grant you that Kyle has talent. But no one can drive a car beyond it's capabilities.
True but everytime you the limit of performance has been found someone finds a way to cross that line.
Look how he seems to make passes stick in the marbles....
As far as "support role" goes well that is the whole purpose of multicar teams. Some are workhorses, some are test benches. That's why the uproar about the number in the stable, unfair testing advantage.

Well, I guess we'll see eh?
Nice to be able to 'discuss' some actual race related things on this site, as opposed to a lot of the BS that goes back and forth.
If the #5 was a support role team as you say, how was Kyle able to run as good as he did before going to Gibbs?
Fact is that Kyle, at this point in his career still young and 100% dedicated and not yet taken that hard hit that hurts, is the type of driver who can elevate a team as seen by his ability to win with several different teams with several different types of vehicles. There is speculation whether a driver can take a car above its capabilities and that is a good question. I will say that a very talented young driver can take a car to the ragged edge of its capabilities and possibly above what people think you can do, because, these young drivers do not have the past experience to put the fear of car limitations in them as of yet. A few years ago when Goodyear attempted to build fewer types of tires and have one tire for several tracks instead of a new tire each week the compound had to get harder. Benny Parsons noted that the younger drivers were having more success than the vets were. Benny said, "These young kids out there do not have the sense to realize that tires should have more grip and do not feel the loss of the grip that the older drivers feel", this is the advantage of youth, you do not have enough sense to realize you should be scared and wonder why everybody else is. Kyle will one day take that hard trip into a wall and get banged up and at that time his body will form limitations as to how far his right foot will press the gas, however, until then lets just realize that we are watching a budding colt who does not yet understand the meaning of the word, Limitations.
