Why don't they hire Booty Barker as the crew chief. He seems pretty sharp. Maybe he would not over adjust the car because Jeff never seems to be happy with the car anymore.

Whoa, hold on, stop. What do you mean Booty Barker? Don't you know that the whole world thinks all Hendricks teams are only teams in Nascar that cheat and you go suggesting Booty Barker. Don't you realize Booty taught Chad everything he knows. Don't you know how many times Booty has been caught "stretching" the gray area? Oh my God, I can't bebieve you'd say something like this. Just kidding.

i found some info that he is a paraplegic on one of the yahoo question and answer pages. Although it says he also played football in highschool. So it probably was some kind of accident. Hasnt stopped him from taking care of business!

I happen to know Mr. Barker and he's very talented. He was injured during a football game in college.
at level T-5, he's one of the very few people at the track without an "atitute" and will be glad to talk to you.
He's not letting being paralyzed stop him in in anyway. He also did get his degree in Engineering.
I would say he's probably one of the nicest people involved in Nascar.
I doubt anybody here could even come close to what he does beng paralyzed.
give him some respect.

Well, I happen to think the man is very smart and knows what he is talking about and I for one really respects the man. This is racing and the name of the game is and always has been to push the limits a bit. Don't forget the old days of drivers who used to hollow out a tube in the car and fill it with rocks to make weight and then when on the track open the tube to let the rocks out and lighten their cars up. Geeze, have we gotten so holier than thou that we forget how everyone at one time pushes the limits? Anyway, I enjoy listening to Mr. Barker each Sunday morning on TV. He always gives me insight and teaches me something. And I never see the wheelchair you talk about. Would love a chance to tell him what a great person and a great job he does.

RENEE, YOU'RE CORRECT ON ALL COUNTS. BOOTY IS VERY INTELLIGENT AND A TRACK-WISE CREW CHIEF. HE HAS AN ENGINEERING DEGREE BUT TENDS MORE TO THE OLD STYLE OF RUNNING A TEAM. BOOTY HAS HAD HIS SHARE OF CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE WORSE KIND WITH THE GUYS IN THE BIG RED TRAILER BECAUSE OF CREATIVE ENGINEERING FROM TIME TO TIME. IF IT ISN'T IN WRITING HOW DO YOU KNOW IT'S AGAINST THE RULES UNTIL YOU GET CAUGHT WITH IT? I THINK JUNIOR JOHNSON SAID THAT OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

I think people are starting to loose the history of what and where NASCAR came from. Dig back into the history and you might get a big surprise from some of the big names. And I bet if you read before you speak you will find that no one in NASCAR is unblemished. Like you said " How do you know it's against the rules until you get caught with it?" It's not like everyone has the time to sit down and read each word of the rules....especially since they seem to be changed as the wind blows these days.

FORGET THE WIND, NASCAR IS NOTORIOUS FOR RULING AGAINST SOMETHING THAT THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE A RULE IN WRITING FOR. ANYONE CAN BUY A NASCAR RULE BOOK. YOU'D BE MORE SURPRISED BY WHAT ISN'T COVERED THAN WHAT IS. THAT WAY THEY CAN GO WHICH EVER WAY THAT BEST SUITS THEM. OH, AND THEIR BEST RULE IS: SOMETHING IS DETRIMENTAL TO THE SPORT, IT CAN BE YOUR CONDUCT OR SOMETHING ON YOUR CAR.

Anything is "DETRIMENTAL" if FRANCES don't like it! Or don't like you; whichever comes first. So you better be careful or the big bad "Frances Monster" will bit you.

PEOPLE GET SO UPSET NOW WHENEVER THEY HEAR THAT NASCAR HAS FOUND SOMETHING ILLEGAL ON SOMEONE'S CAR. I REMEMBER GOING TO A RACE IN THE EARLY SEVENTIES AND AT THAT TIME NASCAR PHYSICALLY DIDN'T TEAR THE ENGINES DOWN UNLESS THERE WAS A SPECIFIC PROTEST. WELL CALE YARBOROUGH AND BOBBY ALLISON AND RICHARD PETTY WERE IN THE TOP 5 FINISHING ORDER. I CAN'T REMEMBER WHO STARTED THE PROTEST, I THINK IT WAS BOBBY BUT ANYWAY THEY WOUND UP TEARING ALL THREE MOTORS DOWN. BOBBY WAS DRIVING THE AMC MATADOR THEN. WE STAYED THERE TILL ABOUT 3AM IN THE MORNING AND FINALLY THE INSPECTORS STARTING COMING OUT OF THE INSPECTION BUILDING AND A REPORTER ASKED WHAT THE RESULTS WERE. THE FELLOW IN-CHARGE SAID "BOBBY IS SLIGHTLY OVERSIZE, RICHARD IS WAY OVER BUT CALE'S GOT AN ELEPHANT". I THINK CALE WAS DRIVING FOR JUNIOR AT THE TIME. THEY HADN'T WENT TO THE 358 RULE AT THAT TIME, THE LIMIT WAS 426CID. I THINK ALL NASCAR TOOK WAS THE HEADS OFF CALE'S CAR. EVERYBODY HAD A GOOD LAUGH AND THAT WAS IT.

Just returned from Richmond. I was fortunate enough to be in the pits before the Busch Race and caught sight of Booty. I called out to him and he turned, smiled and waved.
I really enjoy his segment with Chad during the race. He is very articulate and bright. His wonderful accent just adds to his charm.
