NASCAR: What did Stewart mean by 'dead weight' comment?

Tony Stewart apparently wanted to send a message after his victory Sunday at New Hampshire, but he is keeping the details of his curious public comment on a need-to-know basis.

When Stewart/Haas Racing began I'm sure they went thru some growing pains as a business. The dead weight may have been some behind the scenes staff needed to get the race teams moving in the right direction. The on track results show progressive improvement and it may have been time to trim some fat. Always the professional, Tony deserves respect even if you don't like the guy and I have always liked Ryan Newman. But this year's champ is the #24, not Tony or Ryan.

Hey andy, Tony said that it had nothing to do with Stewart Haas Racing and Ryan's contract is solid until the end of 2012.

That leaves his dirt track team and/or his personal life.

I read that one of his dirt team drivers was testing a new sprint wing car for another team yesterday at a track in New York...so who knows...
