Earnhardt's crew chief will follow him to Hendrick Motorsports

There are 10 comments on the Kansas City Star story from Sep 5, 2007, titled Earnhardt's crew chief will follow him to Hendrick Motorsports. In it, Kansas City Star reports that:

Two major personnel moves were announced in NASCAR on Tuesday with one involving a driver and the other involving a crew chief.

Hendrick Motorsports announced that it has signed Tony Eury Jr. to serve as the crew chief for Dale Earnhardt Jr. next season. In addition, Hall of Fame Motorsports announced that it has hired J.J. Yeley to drive its No. 96 Nextel Cup car beginning in 2008.

The Hendrick announcement means that Earnhardt will continue to work with the man who has been on top of his pit box for parts two of the last three seasons. Eury Jr. also spent five seasons at Earnhardt Jr.'s car chief before that. Read more

Eury Sr. goes to JR Motorsports
Eury Jr. goes with Junior to Hendrick

This is another statement that shows that a great amount of the Earnhardt family is solidly aligned with Junior.

Tony Jr. is a comfortable fit for Junior, and with him they will continue to win races, and hopefully run for a championship. I know that Tony Jr. will not be in the least concerned with what Knaus and Letarte are doing with the 24 and 48 cars. Tony Jr's main concern is his cousin. Its family first, Hendrick second.

That is a great comfort to Jr.

Well he better be. They are two of the best teams in the garage and Knauss is the best CF hands down. Dont get me wrong. I am very anti-Jimmie and Chad and for that matter all of Hendrick. It kills me that a guy like Jr is going to an organisation like Hendrick. Not because of Rick but because of his whiny, irresponsible drivers. But if Tony Jr is going with him (wich I was hoping he wouldnt) he better pay attention. He might learn something.

Family is Jrs problem. He shouldnt be caring about family in this instance. He should get a real CF and leave Tony at DEI. I dont know how many times Ive heard Tony say "Uh, I dont know" to a car issue. But how many times has Jimmie looked like hes all but out of a race early and looking to be an also ran then suddenly by the end of a race hes there contending for a win or at least a top five. Knauss knows how to adjust during a race and Tony can just play hit and miss. Sometimes he gets it right but more often than not over the past few years hes missed. If Jr MUST have family he should be trying to take Tony Sr with him. He so much smarter than Tony Jr.

shouldn't mix family and business like Jr and tony Jr has it's harder to fire them. The question is how long will Tony Jr last at HMS?

I totally agree, Tony Sr was the boss, he controlled Jrs emotions well and was damm good at calling the shots it won Jr 16 races. Tony Jr makes bad calls alot of the time, cant keep up with changing track conditions and he isnt good at controlling Jr, and has only givin Jr 1 win in 2 years.
