NASCAR fades away when football season begins. NASCAR's season is way too long and many fans lose interest when the NFL and NCAA football seasons begin. NASCAR should finish up in September. Economics may force this to become a reality.

FYI, Jr is an afterthought.

And, how do you expect the no-talent Dale Jr to magically start to win all these races when he can't hardly run in the top 20 anymore?

I think it's the over-hyping of the under-performing Dale Jr that has driven fans away from NASCAR. I knew several people that are sick of the way NASCAR harps on Jr while ignoring the drivers that are winning races and collecting championship trophies, while race after race, the 'also ran' Jr limps in somewhere in the 20s then we have to sit through several Jr Nationwide insurance commercials before we get to see the winner's celebration from victory lane. NASCAR needs to let go of their fantasy that Jr is going to be the legendary NASCAR star they hoped he would be, and focus on the drivers that are making it happen and stirring up interest in the sport. Those drivers have been hidden in the shadow of Jr for too long, and since NASCARs chosen star is a non-issue the fans have moved on to other sports where the cameras focus where the game is actually being played, not on a lack-luster son of a dead legend.

Don't forget the ratings are based on TVs tuned into the broadcast. They don't count the actual people viewing, most are sound asleep or passed out 15 minutes into the race.

Jr is on the top team (Hendrick), he just can't drive anymore. Moving him to another organization will only drop him another 10 spots every race. He will be 33rd instead of 23rd. Time to retire and give the ride to a young driver with talent!

I quit watching NASCAR quite some time ago. The got rid of good commentators because they did not fit the "mold." They want suits and ties and slick talkers instead of people who actually know the business. Since suits are required in the press box, maybe they should make them required in the stands too. Further, hire a few more squeaky voiced women to just run the whole show. To keep it from being "dangerous" run Briggs and Strattons...with restrictor plates. And have a few more hours of parades, hand slapping, and other silliness before the race. If someone has a car that is off by 1mm, shoot the owner and never let the team back on a track. Bill France is turning over in his grave. It isn't just Jimmie Johnson, it is corporate stupidity, and media stupidity. PAYING to watch the same garbage is even more insane.

How do you know so much about what is wrong with the sport if you "quit watching NASCAR quite some time ago"? Maybe you should change your name to "Senile Old Nascar fan"? If you don't like it, leave it, and quit bitching.

How can you expect an orgination to do alright when they appointed people like Ned Jarrett and Kyle Petty to their HOF selection committe. That is the reason for Old Ned was selected to enter their HOF. That is a laugh. And the selection of Lee Petty over Cale Yarbrough Is political guided by Kyle Petty.

lets face it the ratings are dropping because the races are to long and they have gotten way to boring to watch!!! The drivers now have to watch what they say and do ! nascar has sucked the fun out of racing!

Nascar is such a joke of themselves even 10 years ago. In the late 80's to late 90's nascar grew so fast that they went from seeing who won in the papers the next day to every race being on major TV. Then after the millionaires (nascar, owners, drivers ect ect) became multimillionaires they wanted to make even more. I can list 500 changes they made after 2000 that have hurt them but I have so many times and nothing ever changes. The only way NASCAR can get back to its roots is for ratings to get so low that those in charge lose money. I for one LOVE!! stories like this. Maybe just maybe they will wake up and see this joke of a sport they have created.

Looks like thats a very well thought-out plan... lots of potential. Think I'd give an 'A' for the proposal layout and content, only a C for researching facts, and a 'D' for the idea 'more changes to fix what got broke by making changes'
