Or perhaps the joke could be the people who write stupid comments like this?!

Gone! Dead! Forget him! Dirtiest ever! Its amazing how nascar trys to help Junior win ! Sorry JR, I like you, but you are "NOT" a driver! Poor Rick Hendrick has tryed everything! Nascar gave him the pole for the 500.[Most likley a BIG motor too] He threw it all away in practice! Bring the stock body out of the showroom, no spoilers wings or restrictor plates! You either lift in the corner or bye bye! Then you will see who is a driver!
You don't know everything there big boy, I've met him and he did interact with the fans, maybe to big a word for you, he was and still be best driver there ever was, I remember him saying if the speeds are to fast you shouldn'd be driving a race car.

Give it up, Earnhardt (SR and/or JR), neither one of them ever were or will be "the best driver that ever was." Petty has 200 wins in NASCAR, he is the King and as it stands today, he is the best NASCAR driver that ever was, until somebody beats his record.

Dale Sr was a bully driver who didn't race and beat the competition, he beat the competition into the wall and drove around them. That's not talent and it's not racing and those tactics don't make you better than the drivers that use real skill and talent to win a race.

Nobody will ever beat Petty's 200 wins. He raced 4 or 5 times a week.

It took Alabama football fans 30 yrs to bury Bear Bryant. I guess it will take that long for the Earnhardt fans to bury Earnhardt.

In the mean time let the rest of the race fans go boogie! boogie! boogie lets go racing.

I'm not so sure Dale Jr is tired of the media bringing up his Dad's death each year. Without the constant reminder of who "Earnhardt" was, Dale Jr would lose a lot of fans. He has been using his Dad's fame and legendary status to skate by with his own poor performance for a good long time. Dale Jr can't afford for the fans to forget the man who made the "Earnhardt" name great, because he has no claim to that fame on his own.
Jr. is taking lessons from MLK III. Milk the name and legend for all it'$ worth.

Doesnt matter, they already equalize the math when the question is who got 50 wins with the fewest amount of starts. That's about as fair a comparison as we'll get and JJ holds the best record for that, AND 5 championships/fewest starts, not to mention in a row.

I do agree that JJ is, by far, a better race car driver than Earnhardt SR ever was. His record proves that. It's unfortunate that Jimmie doesn't get the attention he deserves because NASCAR is so focused on Dale Jr. There are many great drivers on the track every week, but so much camera time and media attention is always focused on Jr that the up-and-coming legends of the sport are virtually unnoticed no matter what they accomplish or how many records they topple. Meanwhile, week after week, Dale Jr does nothing worthy of even a mention of his name, despite always being in the spotlight.

I disagree. They can't possibly attempt to push the Dale Jr story as much as people insist they do.

Hey Alpine, good to see you on here again. Sorry fellas, I gotta go with Dale Earnhardt Sr. I know tha math and I know Sr. would wreck his Mama to win, but damn, he did it all. JJ is the best right now, and he will unseat Sr if he can keep his roll going. There is no doubt about that, but Sr gets my vote for the time being, JJ will have it sooner than later.

Good to see you too but I didn't really go anywhere, just got a lack of interesting discussion.

I gotta say thats insane to think JJ isn't ALREADY the best because how on earth do you think anyone can do better than 5 in a row plus all the records he shattered? Nobody has ever performed that well in the company of this level of competition. You say 'Damn, he did it all" and yet, Im having trouble finding information on his 3 in a row, much less 4 or 5.

"will unseat" is a debate for 2008. At '09 with 4 in a row, I'm afraid 4-Time had settled that argument. Now, its 5-Time and the discussion is actually really ridiculous. If E was alive today, he'd probably say, "Okay guys, Im good but don't try to compare me to somebody who's redefining what it takes to be champion."

And that credit I agree - shouldn't fall onto JJ's performance alone, because the CC deserves a bunch of that too. The CC is the only one who can orchestrate a season like Chad has. The CC pulls gives the instructions, the driver executes. And in the area of who executed best, its simple: Numbers dont lie and although we love our past champions, it's an argument that's done. Over with. The only thing keeping such arguments alive is sentimental value.
