I hope everyone has a safe and blessed weekend. We have a first volleyball game tomorrow night for the youngest. Friday is football and the oldest is marching with the band. They are doing 80's rock this year. I barely remember that time period?? I need to get my darn tect book and do the first quiz. Just my luck if they sent the book to Alpine Utah instead of Texas. LOL.

Oh Theo, I am so sorry, prayers to you and your Mom. How is your Mom? You keep Sue and Cho for as long as you need them, but watch Sue's hind legs with those turkeys around, they will be kicking lol. My Mom had a mild stroke last Sept., went thru rehab,(she already had some health issues before though) and for an 89 years young lady, she has done well. Just know that we are all thinking about you guys and sending our prayers. Keep us posted when you can.
Mikey, they don't ever fully get over founder, but Marilyn does not think he will be a chronic founder horse, just a major change in his diet, and confined to a small paddock for another month or so. He is not a happy camper lol. I will not lie to you, laminitis scares the hell out of me, but hopefully we got it in time. I just keep seeing images of Barbaro in my mind. Just keep him in your prayers.
Everyone have a safe weekend, be safe and you guys are in my thoughts and prayers, hugs to all!!
Love you Phoenix! Am having a hard time who to respond to first. That Katie - she knows EVERYTHING!

Mom will be 82 in Nov. and she and the little girl - Lou Lou will celebrate their birthdays together. Thank you for your prayers. Sue & Cho were a little out there on the map tonight. They were at my house, then @ Mom's and then at the hospital. Told them to take the night off and go to my Iowa ranch and get some rest. Neighbor's across the way have a horse arena so I am sure she is there running through her paces.

Mom does not need any rehab - we had all the different therapy people in for her. Thank God. She's coming home tomorrow w/ the home health. I will keep you updated. Check my response to Katie!

Theo,
So sorry about your mom. Mild means she should recover any lost function within 48-72 hours. 80% carotid blockage is significant and she will have a carotid endartectomy. I hope the surgeon is a vascular specialist? Make sure she spends the night in a close observation unit if not an ICU. She may have an arterial line in one of her wrists. This will monitor her true arterial pressure, this is important as increased pressure is not good. She will need to keep her head up a bit, about 30 degrees. Home health is great and do they have a physical therapist to evaluate her safety and her ability to perform her self care activites. She may end up on a blood thinner if not PLAVIX. It prevents the blood cells from sticking together and forming another clot. You have to be careful as you can just bump yourself and bleed. The elderly are thin skinned and this medicine does not help this.
Wheeeew. I can get long winded. Hope some of this helps.
Let me know how it goes. Blessings to your family.
Tried to post to you last night but isp is acting up again. My post was lost somewhere!

You have explained everything to me in one simple paragraph that it took 18 (or so) people in the hospital to try and tell me.

Mom spent 3 nights under observation (hospital) and I am bringing her home today. I have hired in home care for her (which medicare won't pay for but I'll sell the damn farm!).

Mom did not lose any motor function (miracle) and she was evaluated by a speech therapist, occupational, physical, etc. They have all cleared her. Will have to get a chair for the tubby and am lucky my neighbor here has a med. equip. business so he will set her up w/ that.

Mom is on plavix (now) and has an appt. w/ the vascular guy to evaluate course of treatment which will most assuredly be the end. you said. And - right about the thin skin and bruising. They had to switch the iv to her left arm because she kept hitting her right arm on the bed rails so the bruising is there.

You have been a super help to me and calming my nerves! I'll keep you posted! AND - THANK YOU!

Any time my dear friend. Often we get too technical and I tell my staff "just the basics". Like what is the medication for, what can be the side effects and when to call the Dr. Let me know if you need anything else.

You are a true gem. We got Mom home today on the time frame and she is very happy w/ the in home. The discharge process presented a few glitches but they were worked out. You know the drill. Nervous patient, nervous daughter,,roomie, siblings, and then all the directions and the the phone calls!

We made it through and I know Mom just needs rest and time to calm down, We all ready have an appt. with the vascular guy. You know I will be contacting you on this forum if the guy sounds or acts stupid.

Must get to bed - talked w/ Mom and all going well.

Thank you for all your help

Theo, love you too girl!! So happy that your Mom is home and doing well. She sounds alot like my Mom, fiesty and independent (which is a good thing, that's what keeps Mother going at 89 lol). Sue, Cho and Brea should stay with you and your Mom, they can keep an eye on her for you. Please get some rest also, we don't want you getting sick. Keep us posted and know that you guys are in our thoughts and prayers. Give your Mom a big hug for me.

Katie, nope Phoenix didn't get in the oats, it was too much grass lol. Hubby was cutting and bagging our grass and giving it to the horses, and it was too much for Phoenix. You are right about them over eating though. As long as it's in front of them, they will wolf it down lol. Oh, as yes, drunk is a good thing sometimes lol.

You guys have a good weekend and be safe. Hugs and Love to all.

Thanks all of you for the good wishes, thoughts, prayers AND opinion/advice!

Know Mom is on the right path as she all ready fired one of her in home health people. Feisty and independent is right Phoenix. Mom just thought the gal was a little too pushy w/ her meds and insisting on a bathroom schedule so that was the end of that! Okay.

Mom knows I need a bit of a break so roomie has been checking on her today (the in home care is also there). I am tired but looking forward to getting some things done around my house tonight and watching the race.

Am looking forward to some good sleep tonight after the mess.

Tomorrow will be a good day. It will be the 25th yr. of an auction (which I have been helping w/ for years) to raise money for emt's, volunteer fire, first responders', etc. I donated a bunch of stuff for the auction. It will be held at a lakeside bar/restaurant (not far from me) and I received (more than) several calls today from the personnel who were at my Mom's when I called 911 and they have invited me to sit @ the "big" table w/ them. They did ask me once several yrs. ago to be a guest at the "big" table (I went). It's an honor - and also an honor to be able to give it back to those who help us in times of strife! I know there will be other special guests there!(a horse or 2, a cat?). My Mom is very excited that I can be a part of this fund raising effort. I told her I wasn't going but she insisted that I go to give back to the community. Good things do come!

Go Theo's mom! She needs to get strong before the sugery takes some of the fight out of her. That auction sounds like fun. Relax and have fun as the honored guuest.

Hey all! Good to hear from Phoenix, Katie, Mikeyfan, etc.
Some strife in my camp. Know that Sue & Cho are here (they are in the front yard along w/ 20 wild turkeys). Sorry to take them away from the rest of you but I need them.
Mom had a stroke yesterday. Very mild but in the hospital for observation and further testing. Know Katie will weigh in on this. I always look forward to her expertise in these medical areas as well as the rest of yours.
Out look (outcome) is VERY good. Only bugaboo is they discovered she has an 80% blockage in right coraded (spelling?) artery in neck which we will address asap when she gets her strength back. All ready have the "guy" lined up to do the surgery. Should go smoothly.
Also have home health lined up for Mom. She has taken all of this pretty well.
Roomie has been a great comfort. He is still in shock since he was the one who found Mom on the floor. He called me asap and I called 911 and beat feet to Mom's. Roomie is emt qualified and a volunteer fireman for 17 yrs. He didn't buckle under the pressure - he just wanted me to be the decision maker.
All is well - I'm glad you all are still here! Prayers for all of you! I'll try to keep in touch as much as I can!
WOW!!..I have not even read all of the other comments yet, I wanted to respond to you Theo. Will send love and prayers your/your mom's way!! Glad she is at home, building up her strength before the surgery.

I have to get ready for work (thank God I have a job!)...I'll be checking in here more often. It had been quiet for awhile...

Hope everyone had a safe and nice holiday weekend!

Hi Katie--

Things are good here (thankfully). Still working (thank God) and had a great weekend (Yayy!!), but, it's a little bittersweet. Days are shorter here and Fall is looming, which is followed by Winter. One always worries how bad winter will be and, now with the economy (and some other nonsense), one has to worry about how much heating is going to cost.

Hope you are staying dry in TX and all is well with you, your girls and any other family members.

I hope Theo's mom is doing OK. I'm sure she'll let us know when she can.

As always, sending thoughts and prayers out to those who need them.

We are getting some rain, go figure. Late monsoons I guess. Girls doing well, youngest in athletics and playing volleyball and oldest in band and on
debate club.

Otherwise busy at work, taking a healthcare finance class and working like a dog...

me too..working like a dog. Someone has to pay the taxes that make this country run. Glad to hear that you and your family are doing well. All's good here as well. Last weekend that the club at the lake is open..kind of a bummer, but I've ignored the housework and yardwork all summer and it shows.

Take care and have a good weekend!

Saturday night and I am still so tired. Worked last night in the ED. Went to the country club for a retirement party for the gal that ran it for years. Ate and drank a couple margaritas and I am so done. Hoping to have a good week. Have a candidate for the ED director position coming and I hope he is good. Need to have some back up. Hope everyone is well, prayers for all who need them. Blessings to all too.

Good luck on getting someone hired for that position. Hope you get the right person.
I know how you feel about being exhausted. I feel like all I do is work, eat and sleep.
Remember my friend, Scott, that passed away 2 years ago from cancer? Well, his wife also lost her mom the same day (about 2 hours later). Now, her dad has been diagnosed with cancer in one of his kidneys. He also has some "spots" on his one lung that the Drs need to look at. Her dad's name is Jim. He needs prayers. Having lost his wife (years ago come November), I'm not sure how hard he will fight this. My friend, who had lost her job in June, said "I guess there was a reason why I'm unemployed, I think I have a new job now."

I am so sorry to hear about your friends dad. Your friend and her family have been trhough it all with this cancer stuff. I will keep them all in my thoughts and prayers. Hope all is well with you other then your friends troubles.
I think of everyone on here often. Just dont get on here much as I am working now and have been putting in 6 or 7 days a week. I took 2 days off this month and I am beat. lol I am taking 5 days off in the middle of the month to go and spend time with mom for her birthday.I have taken a liking to a young man I work with who has Luekemia. Scotty calls me "Mom" and he has 3 children who are now my grandbabies. God has been so good to me these past few months.
Lil man is growing so fast and will be starting Preschool in January. Hard to believe he is going to be 3 very soon!!!! Hope everyone is doing well and is healthy. I will try to keep in touch more often.
Sending Hugs to all my wonderful friends.

Hey Sassy--

I totally understand being busy and "beat" from work!(I try not to complain, but it would be nice if there was a "happy medium" between unemployed and working like a dog).
Thanks for the prayers for Jim. I'm not stating the name of my friend, because she is a private person and, if there are strange people lurking here, I wouldn't want her identitiy figured out. I guess I'm safe keeping her name out of it.
THREE!!..I can't believe lil man is that old either! He must be getting so big.
Sounds like a great idea--you spending time with your mom. Also, will keep "Scotty" in our prayers--it will be an easy name to remember.
All is well with us, thanks for asking.

Have a good weekend, all.

And if she has what they think she might I just dont know how I will deal with it. Just losing Dad and now this I honestly dont know what I will do.

Yes, Sassy--
You and your mom have my prayers!! Remember, though, some things are treatable, so don't lose hope (although I know that is easier said than done).
Enjoy your time with her--NONE of us is guaranteed tomorrow.
