Part 1-2
NASHVILLE, Tenn.– When Kasey Kahne went to California for a Goodyear tire test last month, he was racing a Ford after his Richard Petty Motorsports team switched from Dodge as part of its merger with Yates Racing.
What might be surprising, though, is that he had a setup provided by the Roush Fenway Racing team of Greg Biffle.
It’s that kind information exchange that the RPM drivers hope to benefit from with the car switch and merger. RPM, Yates and Ford officials are expected to formally announce the completion of the merger Jan. 19. With the addition of Front Row Motorsports and with Wood Brothers Racing returning for another part-time schedule, there will be 10 or 11 manufacturer-backed Fords at each event. Last year, RPM was part of a seven-car Dodge stable along with Penske Racing.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” Kahne said at the Sprint Sound and Speed on Saturday.“I think we’re going to have a better engine package. Working with a bigger group of people should benefit everybody at RPM.”
The 2010 season will be critical for RPM. It’s the third consecutive season with some form of new ownership for the organization and all of its drivers – Kahne, Elliott Sadler, AJ Allmendinger and Paul Menard – have contracts that are up at the end of the year. Only Kahne won races and made the Chase For The Sprint Cup last season.
It also will be critical for Roush Fenway, which didn’t win a Cup race after Matt Kenseth won the first two events of 2009 and only had two of its five drivers make the Chase.
“One of the things that led us to Ford was the open communication that they have between all their teams,” Sadler said.“Greg Biffle and myself have already talked about it.[Roush Fenway driver] Carl Edwards and myself have already talked about helping each other as much as we can because Roush didn’t have the best season they ever had last year by no stretch and, of course, we didn’t either.
“We both feel like we’re very humble as companies right now. We’re doing what we can to help each other. When Kasey went to test at California, he threw Greg Biffle’s setup in it to a T, just to give those guys something to look at. There’s definitely a lot of communication going on between both Ford camps right now, and I’m very, very happy to see that. We’re both at a stage that we know what we have to do to run with the Hendrick cars. We know we need to get better. Both companies do.”
RPM employees are still working out of their shop in Statesville, N.C., and likely will move to the Yates shop in Concord, N.C.(next to Roush Fenway) during the next few months.
“They’re still not in the same shop [as us],” Edwards said.“We’re separate teams. For me to be able to have another guy of Kasey Kahne’s caliber to go and talk to about stuff,[and] his crew chief, maybe we’ll be able to share some stuff with them. That would be huge.
“The big thing right now is to show Kasey that we can do well enough, and that Ford is the company to be with,[and] get him to stay to help make our team strong in the long run.”
Sadler and Allmendinger drove Fords in select races at the end of 2009. Allmendinger finished in the top 13 in the final three races in a Ford.

Part 2-2

“We have the same core group of guys that were on the 9 car,” said Kahne, who finished 10th in the standings last year.“We have a little bit different body with the Ford body. We have a different group of people we’re working with, a touch more power.
“To me, it’s a little bit of a bonus. I’m looking forward to it. But our cars will drive the same way they did last year really.… It’s been a pretty crazy offseason trying to get the cars built, trying to get familiar with the new surroundings.”
Sadler said the company is working hard on the conversion of cars.
“Everybody’s excited to get to Daytona, but we still need a little bit more time,” Sadler said.“We’re building new cars, trying to get everything as prepared as we can so when we leave to go down for the 500 we have our Vegas and Atlanta cars and California cars and all the stuff done [for the following month].”
While there was speculation that Sadler would have a different crew chief this year, Wally Rogers will remain. Rogers took over the job last August.
“He learned a lot on the go, week in and week out, the way he was thrown in the position,” Sadler said.“He’s had a whole winter to gather his thoughts, play with a lot of stuff on simulation programs, especially the different ones that Ford uses compared to the ones we had.
“So I’m really happy with the progress he feels like he’s made as a crew chief going to Daytona. It should be fun.”

Esadlerfan?

You have said that Sadler is one of the 'best' road course racers in NA$CAR, but why do you think he never gets a 24 hours at Daytona ride like A.J. and a few others?

I have my answers as to why, but would like to hear yours.

Simple, you have to have someone willing to foot the money to put you in a car to run that race. ES does not get the credit for how well he has done in the past on road courses and if ES had ran better the last 3-4 year he might have been offered a ride at some time during that time? Then again, he might have been offered one before and decided to not run it...who knows? Anyway, AJ seems to be one of Petty's favorites so he would get it before ES would at this point?

A.J. has been running other series and the 24 hour for years. this has nothing to do with the hierarchy at RPM.

Is that already excuse number one for the season?'AJ seems to be one of the Petty's favorites'?

The simple fact is that ES doesn't want to spend any more amount of time and just do the bare minimum just to get by. You follow his tweats and updates. While other drivers are spending time at the race shop all winter, ES is hunting it up in VA. I Think the only time ES goes to Mooresville is for the occasional photoshoot these days.

Now it's off to Daytona, and the ES pre-season 'I'm excited about driving a Ford' stuff. It's the same quotes from 4 years ago, only change the manufacturer, ironically after leaving Ford and Yates while still under contract.

That is the simplicity of it all

No excuses this year, If Es gets the cars he is expecting and still doesn't improve, then he will not have a quality ride next season...if not not before the end of the this season?

Now this offseason has not afforded him much of a chance to get in the shop or on the track as they were in the process of building the New cars and then are moving over to the Yates show! He has talked with the Roush drivers and attended Meetings in between enjoying the off season. The only ones to drive Ford cars this off season were Kahne in a Dec tire test at Auto Club Speedway in a car supplied by Roush, Biffle in a test at Texas with the new spoiler and Edwards in a tire test at Atlanta. AJ had this importunity in the Rolex 24 because Like Perkins said, he has driven it before! So where has ES had an importunity to even get in a car when they are still getting them ready for the season???

The move with Yates is all the more reason to be a gym rat at the shop. This offseason as far as ES goes has been no different than the last 10 either. Again, his tweats tell the story here, and over the past 75 days, little if that involves racing unlike his team mates. Attending meetings? You mean like the one with NA$CAR where ES came out claiming there were no plans to get rid of the wing? Now thats some focus!

You are talking out of both sides of your mouth when you say that ES has never had the opportunity. We are not talking about actual testing simply because of the testing ban. But ES could have ran late models at the Rock (like others did) or even tried to plug himself for a 24 ride. The answer to that is he doesn't because there is no market of owners who are willing to give him a seat.

And don't even start with the getting good equipment excuse. after all that was HIS excuse from bolting from Yates almost 5 years ago. He is and has been getting the same equipment as the other 3 RPM drivers since joining RPM (thats a proven fact) and has been consistently been outperformed by all of them. Since RPM has a ride along 4th driver with Menard, maybe ES has a running mate!

Look for ES to have another strong speed weeks and Daytona, then when the real driving starts after that, he will fall in the driver points like he has done for 10 years. Its up to ES himself to prove this wrong.
Sorry

I have to disagree with some of what Once has said. He didnt get the same equipment that the other Petty drivers got. Kahne was always getting better engines and such. Heck look when they gave Elliott Kasey engine by mistake and that same week Kasey had Elliotts and Kasey blew up even before 1/4 of the way into the race, and Sadler would have had a great finish if he had not been wreck. And that is one wreck he diodnt cause so dont rry and use that excuse. I am not making excuses for the way he has been driving or anything but he hasnt gottent he same stuff as other drivers at Pettys have. I honestly hope that he does much better this year and it shuts up all the haters.

If it was said the following week, it would have been in print somewhere.(It is not) But feel free to cite which race it was said in. I have them all Tivoed and on DVD. I would love to hear that, especially since Elliott was very quick to point out any crew mistakes last season, and many times had to apologize for them via tweet.

I don't know his spotter's name but have never heard him make fun of others, I just have read his quotes. I would not know if he is a jerk or not so I won't go there.
Sorry

Well you didnt look at his pictures on twitter then or what he has said in the past on twitter. I know it was said and sorry but I dont have everything dvred or I would tell you but I didnt do that.

His spotters name is Brett Griffin and he is not nice and is very rude. His comments can tellt hat for themselves. Always talking about being drunk or drinking and then making fun of people. Hope he remembers karma is a b*tch. Because one dayit will come back someway and bite him in the rear.

Sadler fans revising history again? Say it ain't so! The incident in question was the first race of the Chase @ Dover where Kasey's motor blew. The cause of the blown motor had nothing to do with the motor, but it was a broken crank shaft that cause the motor to go away. The black helecopter fans thought it had to do with a week before with the notification of the RPM motor staff getting thier lay-off notices, but it had NOTHING to do with Sadler.

There has been nothing worse than the poor poor pitiful Sadler fan crying foul because Sadler can't drive anymore. Kahne fans have grown very tired of it!

As Moosie said in the post above I think we are all very tired of it. Let's leave 2009 and years before behind us and move forward. Yes, this should be a year of improvement for the whole team and if not then things will shake out and changes will be made. The chance is there to do well hope it happens.
