Looks like there are some pretty bizarre things going on between drivers, girlfriends, crew members, etc ... on "social networking" sites??

Reminds me a little of the banter around A's shirt and hand signs and the gnome by the Christmas tree ...

If you post it, and they come to read it, does it really exist???

Aren't some of them spoiled children?? They want the fame and all the money and, still, think they can demand the right to control our opinion of them. Sorry, when you choose to flaut yourself and brag about your status--be prepared to be 'cut down to size' by the general public. They NEED to remember, without our support and willingness to buy tickets to races, their merchandise, etc..,etc.., most of them would be flippin' hamburgers (or worse),for a living. Want the BIG bucks??..got to take the bad with the great. Everyone's "job" has a down-side to it. If they don't want to take the bad with the good, then find a new career, such as working as a 'regular' employee for one of their multi-million dollar sponsoring companies..wanna trade places with me?? anyday, I'll do it..won't complain about it either!!

Good points Mikey and LMRA. Controlling the fan's opinion? Not possible. Most drivers not only have their own websites, my space, foundations, etc., but (also) multiple homes, airplanes and million dollar motorhomes and some do brag about it. So, not only do we buy race tickets,(or watch diligently on the TV - oops! I mean watch commercials!), we buy their merchandise, go to their websites, etc., so as fans shouldn't we be able to voice our opinions? Like you said Mikey - they flaunt it in public and put it out there for us. On another forum someone said ES would be selling cars if he wasn't a race car driver.

I think - JMO - that professional athletes are over paid and since the media keeps telling us race car drivers are pro. athletes - I guess they are (?). This has lead me to finally form an opinion on ES's "blunt stance". Cheaters should be punished with fines and points.(NASCAR finally did "good" by giving the fine money to charity instead of putting it in a points fund to distribute among the top 35 in points - the rich get richer). NASCAR doesn't need any help raising fine amounts - think they do a pretty good job without help from the drivers. If NASCAR starts handing out $200,000.00 fines/200 points it might cause the trickle down effect. i.e., drivers will want more money because the fines are so huge and since they know they are going to cheat (some anyway and we all know who)- what the heck? The sponsors will have to anty up more dough and some just might pull out. Eventually, ticket prices, concessions, merchandise, etc. will all increase and they are high enough already. Think NASCAR should just go through the rule book and set fines/points for each infraction. JMO.

I think all the drivers..ok maybe not ALL of them but the younger ones know what the hell is said about their girlfriends. Some should listen to us 'outsiders looking in' but unfortunately we all look like crazed stalker female fans that want to get into their pants or their 'circle of friends'

Fans talking about their personal life is something that will always happen and will never go away, you can thank the girlfriends for that one since they cant seem to keep their personal life and pictures off the internet themselves.

But anyways i have always said that all professional athletes are overpaid...the only person who should be making the money that most of these guys make is the freaking President. Good Lord he runs the country and keeps us safe.

It saddens me to think that teachers don't make more money also, they teach our children for crying outloud and can barely make ends meet at times. I have never liked the idea that athletes get paid MILLIONS when the average folk who actually does something for society gets paid pennies.

while i am sitting here on unemployment because i got laid off, the drivers made hundreds of thousands of dollars to drive a car in a circle for 4 hours. Just doesnt seem fair if you ask me.

Oh yeah! Thanks for the "vote" of confidance. Knew a bunch of senators/government types growing up. My parents always wanted me to marry one. NOT! Money does breed power unless you work for it. There is a sense of entitlement. Like Kathy Bates said in "Fried Green Tomatoes", I'm older and I've got more insurance. Well said. But we all know the real scoop - we've worked hard to put ourselves in a position to afford that insurance.

That prostitute thing - friend called me this morning @ 8:30 just to rag about that. And,(this is probably off topic) the wives stand behind all these guys. My Mom called a bit ago and was ragging about it and said the only reason the dumb bunnies were standing there looking stupid was so they could get more in the divorce. My Mother is 80! YO! MOM!

A lot of drivers have "homes" (slut houses) on Lake Norman and go out and buy these great big boats. Ummmm...... Anyone remember that Shrub's boat got busted last summer (or summer before - who cares?) because "his" driver was drunk?

Water safety is very important to me. I grew up on a lake and have been privvy to many motorboats, sailboats, etc.(I actually worked on the Belle of Hot Springs). I started swimming lessons @ age 3 and boating lessons (no kidding)@ age 6. Have also been involved with search & rescue (as volunteer) running the shore lines (on my waverunner & boat) looking for bodies after boating accidents that killed people. Have also rescued idiots (on waverunners & in boats) who were irresponsible and towed them to shore. Okay - calm on the soap box water stuff! Probably not the place to post this. Forgiveness?

Agreed. All the younger ones are thinking about is getting laid. I don't think any of us are crazed female stalking fans. When you've got dough and a hot looking chick beside you (and getting laid)- they both win! Exposure!

Sorry about your unemployment status. I have been on it several times so I know where you are at. Good luck with finding a new job.

I'm responding to your quote, LD, but I agree with all said above. They are OVERPAID, then WHINE when we don't say nicey-nicey things about their "flavor of the month", their big houses..etc, etc...and we call a spade a spade. I say, "if they want SYMPATHY from me, they can look for it in the dictionary---it's between SH*T and SYPHILIS!!"...that saying is about 50 years old..my stepfather used it all the time..applies today(esp given the lifestyle of some of them.)..LOL.

I fell for you there. I'm in the same situation, having been a victim of working in the home building industry. I have an interview tomorrow, so I'm hopeful at least, but I have to admit, I was thinking the same thing about those drivers while I was trying to stay awake during the race on Sunday. It's a rough rough life, isn't it? You get paid that kind of money, then you'd better be prepared to put up with some crap, as far as I'm concerned, it's a small price to pay, and most of it's fairly easily ignored. I know...easy for me to say, but it's how I feel. I've had to put up with plenty of crap like that in my life and never been paid big for it...

Don't think you are off topic - it all fits together. It's all a part of the process. I love what I do (just don't have enough of it so I have to do other things to make ends meet). Roomie works in construction and can get anywhere from 30 to 45 an hour. He told me to go out and get a real job - like at Wal-Mart. I'd be happy to work for a buck 2.98 an hour if the closest Wal-Mart wasn't 30 miles away. All that would do for me is pay for the gas (I would have to absorb the wear and tear on my truck) and the government would borrow my money for a year. Good idea.

Oh my big fat soap box! We can cure cancer. We can have lower gas prices. But, it behooves (is that a word?) the snot noses to delay it because it benefits them. Don't get me started on this war thing. I try to the best of my ability to not discuss politics or religion in public. Okay - you got me - the Pres. makes less than CEO's for major companies (but we're paying for it) and they also get paid a salary until the day they die (and we pay for it as well as the lifetime Secret Service/FBI escorts they have). Better fall off the box - I'm starting to burn here.

AGREE..AGREE...AGREE. Theo--can I write you in when I vote for Pres.??? Seriously?? Gas is up to $3.45/gallon in Toledo (and Medina..I was there for work today). How do we start a "refuse to go to work for a week and SHUT this country DOWN" when gas hits $4.00/gallon this summer, as the media has PROMISED. Saw a bumper sticker on a car last week..says it all.."It's time for another 'Tea Party." (protesting taxation without representation)..I'm sorry about those losing their job..we personally know 3 different people who lost their jobs this last week (all different professions, too).

Well, I had not planned to vote, but I now have a candidate. Agree with everyone on all the topics above. Gas is $3.22/gallon here in NC, small town, but higher in Raleigh and Fayetteville. Also sorry to hear about the job losses. Heard today that Feb. unemployment in NC was 4.9. And they wonder why we complain about the overpaid drivers.

Don't want to make anybody mad with political talk (especially here in TX - I'm glad I've got a gun!- just kidding - but you would be foolish living where I do without one - JMO). I proudly display my UGRA bumper sticker (no taxation without representation)- oh, Upper Guadalupe River Authority. A few years ago they wanted to start taxing (extra) on septic systems. Okay - let me get this straight - you want to tax my s***? I don't think so.

I simply do not know how we stop this gas increase but shutting down the country for a week is a good idea. The only thing I leave the house for these days is mail and groceries. My mailbox is 8 miles away and the grocery is 30 miles away. Obviously - I can't walk it. I'm screwed. The country shut down for two weeks after 911. I'm all for doing it again.

wow!!..taxing sh**--could they START in Washington DC??..probably could balance our nation's budget and erase the deficit from income from that town alone!!
your nearest store scenario is making me re-think "I wish I lived in the country." Of course, city life has major drawbacks too...taxes are high and the dumb city is re-building all of it's schools--starting with the newest one's first--while half of our population is on the fastest train out of dodge..politicians.

I post this and go to work today (so I can pay for the gas in the car to go to work next week) and you guys get all political on me!

I was a political science major in college and between the Florida re-count and this current election, I think my parents finally understand what my major was all about - 25 years after graduating!

I also agree - athletes and others in high profile jobs are way overpaid. Look at some of the bonuses corporate types get (like the bundle they gave the guy from Home Despot as they were FIRING him) are disgusting.

But, on the other hand, can you blame them for taking all the cash they can get while it's being offered??? If we were honest with ourselves, if someone offered us a million or 2 to drive a car in circles for 36 Sundays and maybe make an appearance or 2 - smile with pretty boys at our sides, make a commercial or 2 and get to hang out with other people making millions - wouldn't we jump at the chance? We know we'll never be the best but heck - most of them say they show up to qualify, then show up to drive the car on Sunday. Sometimes 20th is as good as 1st ...

I once knew a guy who pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies. He worked every 5th day - for about an hour and a half, half that time sitting on his butt on the bench, and then he got to take a shower and go out drinking. That's not even 5 hours of work A WEEK ... for A LOT of money. He had no idea what it was like in the real world - get up, work 8 hours for at least 5 dyas per week - for pennies.

Unbelieveable ...

BUT we would jump at the chance to do it - which makes us only human. Plus how many of us do our jobs in front of thousands of people LIVE and in person and millions more on tv??? Plus people bet on their performance. No one places bets on whether I'll balance my budget today or whether I complete all the paperwork on my desk.

BUT they know what they're getting into and I guess for some it IS their dream but come on ... they don't do brain surgery or save lives or teach children ... those are dream jobs!

Guess what? Neighbor called and her s*** is being taxed. Guess our septic system was grandfathered in but she told me they have to pay $200.00 a yr. to have their s*** inspected by the UGRA. What is this world coming too? Loose and moving..... Friend in the midwest runs the sanitary sewer office and every time she sends out the bills she has some cute saying attached to bill - "time to pay for those sinkers and floaters again!" Gawd.

You are so right about the CEO's... while myself (along with hundreds of other employees nationwide) were getting laid off, and hadn't had our yearly bonuses in three years (mine was about $8,000), the CEO was being paid $850,000 along with a bonus of $2,404,187. All the while, he was/is running the place into the ground. Pretty pathetic if you ask me.

Have to agree with you though, I'd absolutely take the money if it was offered to me! But I wouldn't b*tch and moan about the inconveniences that came with it either... Just my take on it at least.
