Great post, VAFan. I totally agree with you and that columnist. I don't begrudge Sadler of having a personal life or having fun in it, but where does he draw the line? If he wasn't a Sadler and didn't have money to fall back on if his career were to come to an end, would things be any different? Would he actually try?
I'm sick of asking myself these questions so since he doesn't seem to care, neither do I.
I won't be wearing any of my Sadler gear to Dover next weekend so I guess there won't be anyone else wearing it either. I never see anyone wearing 19 stuff except me.
I haven't joined Twitter but I did read his twitts or whatever you call them. Just a few talk about racing but that's mostly all of his repetitive apoligies. The rest are about his golfing, how much the dogs love their "mama" and whatever else. I got bored reading them, lol.
Does anyone know how big his fan base is?
his fan base??...himself and his "mommy"..oh yes, count Amanda too--she's a fan of the "Sadler money." That's as good as it gets!!

LMAO @ Mikey Fan. The reason I asked was Elliott thanked his fans for congratulating him and his wife on the news of their 1st child and I thought--what fans? I never see any at the track or anywhere else. Does anyone else go to races on a regular basis and see any 19 fans?

I have been to several races this year and on pit road, there are plenty of Sadler fans at the races. In fact at Richmond there were a whole gaggle of them on pit road watching and hanging around.I spoke with many of them and we had a good time but were sadened by the way Elliotts car was handling.

We will see if next year he runs better in a Ford if you all are talking good about him again and not putting him down. Someone made a comment about Earnhardt Jr having many fans no matter how he runs.. WEll thats because of his name. If not for his Daddy he wouldnt have many fans because he is a average driver at best.

My husband and I have gone to Richmond for the past 5 years and I can count on 1 hand how many Sadler fans I encountered. Not saying there weren't any, I just didn't come across alot.
I'm not putting Elliott down either, but I refuse to keep waiting and waiting for him to perform better. I know drivers have their slumps and some slumps can be lengthy but this is just plain ridiculous and painful as far as Sadler goes. I'm not saying I don't like him anymore because I do, I'm just putting him on the back burner. Most guys make attempts and viisible ones at that when they've fallen on bad times but I can't say that about Sadler.

I've heard that Elliott has missed some fan appearences and other stuff. Is this true?
Wouldn't the sponsors have a fit?
I can't believe Richard Petty would allow that. Ya'll know how obsessed he is about how to treat the fans.
Do you think things will change with this new merger. EVERYONE is talking about the $, motors, Ford vs Dodge...I wanna know what you think about 'attitude' in the new team. Will Elliott become more responsible toward his 'fans', job, nascar related responsibilities...baby?

I'd love to say YES, but I'll be the skeptic and say-- they haven't since he went to RPM, soooooo...

I have to go with Carly on this one. I have a feeling E thinks driving a race car is a birth right - not a priviledge - and treats it as such. Like his name will get him places instead of his record.

JMO of course and I would have to agree he is on my back burner also. Still have an affection for him (and always will - heck I still cheer for Derrike Cope when he actually qualifies for a race) but will spend less $$$ and energy proving I'm a fan.

Any fan club members out there? Has the Dave and Busters event sold out? Remember, back in the day, when you had to be quick on the Internet to buy tickets to his events?? Seems like not so much now ... OH and no barn party this year either???

IF and I do emphasis on the IF Elliott realizes his fan base is bailing on him, he just might get his act together.
I went to one Barm Party and I really thought it was kinda overrated. My wallet was a whole lot jighter afterwards, lol.

He left Yates, with 2 more full years on his contract, because Evernham Motorsports was "moving in a direction" that he was agreeable with. He liked their emphasis on engineering--or so he said in his interviews when he first went with Evernham (as if he could even recognize an emphasis on engineering). I can only imagine that he MUST be unhappy, ending up back with a group of people he left before his contract was up. I wonder if a Yates-Gillett-Petty company would even HAVE to honor his current contract since it is now a different company than the one he signed with. I imagine he will be unhappy being back with Yates and his performance will reflect that.

Best Buy and Stanley would be throwing fits if any of this was even close to being true.
I believe it's who/whomever has the better sponsor. So Budweiser has always been the bigger/better sponsor (ie Earnhardt) so they get more money and can give KK better equipment than anyone else on the team. Unfortunately, that's the way it is all over.

We are all fans BUT we are concerned about his future in Nascar. Yes, he has had some problems but most of the time it is play-golf, going to basketball games, Las Vegas, wedding, etc. We are not putting him down, just wondering what can be done to light a fire and get him better than 30th. So sick of it have you got an idea?
Honestly, is He or any other driver/sports person, just supposed to think about the "sport" that they are doing 24 hrs. They do get to have some personal time to themselves to enjoy playing golf, getting married, etc.....
My husband told me on many occassions that NASCAR should have gotten rid of Dodge years ago because they were never a good car to race in. So while it may seem that it's always the person, look at the whole picture. ES (and yes I am a big fan) ran fairly well until he came to drive dodge.

Just to clear this up.... I seen plenty of fans of Sadler at the Richmond race this past weekend. More than a couple. We met him at Best Buy in Richmond and at the race track and got a picture and autograph. He may not be as popular as Gordon or Earnhardt. Like I said before, Earnhardt wouldn't be where he is today if it wasn't for his daddy (rest his soul). I don't need to jump on the bandwagon.

Don't know if the Dave and Busters event is sold out. As far as the Barn Party....... when my Husband and I met him down in Richmond this weekend, I had him sign the picture from last years. He asked if we had a good time. We said "absolutely". My husband asked why there wasn't one this year and Elliott responded that there will be one next year. It is alot to do to get it together so every other year. So before you go around accusing someone of not doing anything for or having fans, do some research.

like 20 or so????? maybe 50 at most? You are talking about this stroker's 'home track'.(or is that Martinsville.... guess it just depends on the race weekend)

The fan base is at a 'year' 2000 or worse low now

get it?

He may have said it at the time, but realized that there is a lot of work into getting HIS and His Parent's back yard ready for all those fans. Plus all the other appearances that he has to do through out the racing season. If you haven't been at the barn parties then you haven't seen all the things that have to be done and put up. Yeah, he hires people to do it (possibly) but at least he tries.

At least he found his own fan base and didn't have to use his daddy's last name to get some....Earnhardt

The release they published said Yates was pretty much folding up tent and doing only engines now, that's it so I am guessing it is RPM with Yates engines and second hand RFR chasis. Wonder how long Penske will stay dodge, I would guess they are on the move as well.

I wasn't trying to stir up a hornet's nest when I asked how big his fan base is--I was just curiuos.
Elliott became my favorite because he seemed to have the determination it takes to succeed in NASCAR, but now he seems to not care. Quite frankly I'm sick of his excuses and I don't buy into the "Dodges suck" deal either. Maybe they do but there are guys who get crappy cars and they seem to make it work for them whereas Elliott just limps around the track in the back over an over again.
